@Mustang40: HAHAHAHA I love it!You best purge this silly assed idea out of your head right now!You are NOT a citizen any longer, you are a trainee learning to become a soldier.Your *** belongs to Uncle Sam big boy.Your TI will be your new Momma and Daddy. You will be told when to eat, when to ****, when to sleep, when to think and how to think. When you get through with basic you will be a MAN and a soldier as well as a far better human being. When you return to Kingwood, I would like to buy you a beer, shake your hand, and provide you a meal.Keep your nose clean, give it your best and try hard. Its not easy, but it damn sure is worth it.  4951

Don't get any piercings or tattoos while in the military, "damaging government property" is a legit thing.  You will get in trouble and possibly fined or made to remove it.  Just follow directions and you should be fine.  But agreed, a little late on looking into that one. 4951

You actually get more rights / benefits IMO. Free tuition, discounts, tax breaks, free healthcare, ability to earn a pension (good luck finding one of those), free meals...the list goes on. You also get to serve in the best damn military that ever walked the face of the earth.  4951

I used to work for DOD and you will be subject to United Code of Military Justice. The most common Articles I dealt with were Articles 133 and 134. 4951

You don't lose any rights. You have the same rights as every US citizen. The only real difference is on military posts. If you live on one or, on one in general, some of your rights like search and seizure, firearm possession are subjected to different rules and regulations among other things and they vary from posts to posts. I remember once a soldier had wheels on his car that extended beyond the car. Legal out in town but on post, it was against the law. Stuff like that. They also inspect your living  quarters. They may say no liquor or firearms, again legal in town but not on the base. They also may put out an APB that certain places are off limit out in town, certain bars, clubs etc. This is always due to incidents of violence or due to the preying on young soldiers by certain establishments like check cashing places.   Sometimes it actually works out in your favor. Say you are serving in a dry county or parish. Can't drink in town, but if the base is in the dry county you can at the base clubs. Take PA or Salt Lake City for example. They have restrictive alcohol laws but the base trumps their laws.   There is also no tax on bases.                4951

You also lose the right to move through crowds of good Americans anonymously.  Because we will constantly thank you for your service. 4951
