It's gonna take quite a bit..lol.I drive a company vehicle for now, but if I didn't, it would take a very flexible bus schedule, because my hours are kinda flexible. I don't have set hours per se....but I usually come in about 5:30am and leave around 2:30pm.....I don't think the park and rides even start that early, do they? 4951

Recently residents of Katy were informed their managed lanes will increase to $10 each way with the authorities stating the increase is designed to force people in to mass transit.

@Stealth83:  That is not what they said. the rate increase was to reduce congestion in the managed lanes.http://abc13.com/traffic/cost-of-driving-on-i-10-managed-lanes-about-to-go-up/731077/

@AtascaGuy:
I take either the 520 or 540am bus from kw and there is one before that also so they start early. Coming home in the afternoon the sched is pretty flexible.

This is the stretch I take to the Energy Cooridor. It's a fortune going from Katy to Downtown already, but I'm going against traffic and it costs me about 60 cents. They adjust the rates depending on time of day.

I spend 2 hours or more per day in traffic. $10 a day wound add up quickly. I would likely adjust my hours to avoid the peak rush hour times, either negotiate flexible hours at work to go in later or I would even go in extremely early...better to sit at your desk drink coffee and play on the net than sit in traffic.

To avoid traffic, I go in slightly later than most. It helps but doesn't avoid all traffic. 4951

@buddyboy: edited to add:taking bus only really works if going downtown. If not to downtown there really isnt a viable option for mass commuting due to how long it would take to travel.

Vanpool is a happy medium between bus and personal vehicle, especially if one can get a vanpool with riders that all work at the same place.  Between Washington and here, I've been using a vanpool for nearly 20 years.  As a result too, my eight year old car is just now approaching 60k miles.  Between mindset/ego and practicality, I know it wouldn't work for everyone, but I'd give it consideration. 4951

@chilladahun: The actual full interview showed that's what the goal is.  Yes, they need to ease congestion but they want more to use mass transit.Same reason they are putting bus only lanes in the Galleria area. They are actually removing parking in order to put these and will ticket autos using them.

@Stealth83: where is the actual full interview? Every source I saw said it was to reduce managed lane congestion.

@AtascaGuy: Between 9:00am and 3:00pm they run ever hour on or about the hour and stop at Eastex, Townsend and Kingwood park and ride lots. That a little over an hour at these times

@Stealth83: They hope one leads to the other.  Really should invest is a decent rail service like Dallas is doing.  The light rail system is a joke.

I am not a fan of "fixed rail" simply because it is fixed and not flexible. Bus routes allow the flexibility of changing as demographics and business needs change

@Stealth83: I'm not tossing the bus routes, it all has to work together. If you have spent any time in NYC or Boston, bus and rail work very well together.Fixed rail moves large masses quickly.  Houston has some pretty defined high density areas that won't be changing any time soon
