Saw this in person a couple of years ago in South Dakota. It's a real Buffalo skull made by Indian artists, 26 in horn to horn and vertical 24 in. It's a symbol of having no fear, protecting your family at all costs, there is no fear. It is a battle symbol to defend your family basically. I want to get it and mount it above my fireplace but having a hard time selling it to the Mrs. It's hard to appreciate it in a picture but wanted to get some opinions.    4951

Aw. That's sweet that you want a symbol of your commitment to your family's safety and well-being. I wish all men had this much pride in their roles/duties to their families. From a female perspective, most women strive to create a warm and inviting home--it's in our DNA. Unfortunately, taxidermy animals and skulls don't give an inviting or cozy vibe that a woman wants for a main room. Perhaps there is another room that you both can compromise on.  4951

I know you are correct, it's not something most people would like there. You really have to see it though, a lot of detail, very good art work. I think I will place it somewhere else. You really have to know the whole story of Crazy Horse and the families the US Army murdered to appreciate it though. I think most people if they knew women and children were killed in cold blood could appreciate it. These people stood their ground as long as they could. Very powerful symbol. .    4951

Maybe put it in the man cave, if you have one? I actually like the idea of having it over the fireplace, but I also think that would depend on what the decor is like in that room first. It would be perfect in a room that has a more rustic feel to it. 4951

I think it would be nice over a fireplace. Maybe suggest a trial period of two weeks? If it works, it stays. If not, to the bedroom it goes Emoticon 4951

@bp2018: This made me look around my living room.  I have Indian masks and pictures on one side and MC Escher and modern bird thingies on the other.  Mixed in are pictures my dd painted.  I think instead of rustic, my room is more all over the place.

@beastmode: Just put it up one day while she is out and see how long it takes for her to notice Emoticon

@RogueHippEE:

At least it sound like it has personality! We've been in our house going on 3 years, and it still looks like we moved in yesterday. Guess that's what happens when you work all the time and are never home. Luckily that's starting to change. My goal is to have everything together and at least looking lived in by my DH's birthday in July. 4951

@GoldenGirl: I never liked Indian art until I went to South Dakota and started seeing real Indian art. It kinda grew on me along with the Deadwood outlaw vibe. A lot of history in that area. Seeing Buffalo roaming out there and the sheer size of them. Very cool animal. I also like the gamey taste of the meat.

@beastmode: I can see where that might happen...  Every once in a while I see a really nice Primitive piece come through the auction and it appeals to me...but it just doesn't fit in my current home...   Although I do have a massive Hall Tree from about 1890 in my entry way.   Someday I might have a nice country home.....
