Our family will be relocating to Kingwood within the next few months.  We are looking for a safe apartment to rent until we find a home to buy.  The Oaks of Kingwood has been mentioned to us.  Our main considerations are a great junior high and high school as well as low crime rates.  We also would like something quite economical, since we will be maintaining two households during these months. Any info would be greatly appreciated. 4951

I guess it depends on what you consider economical? 4951

Hello and welcome! Emoticon

Sorry, I can't help with apartments, but that new website being advertised with those "change your apartment change the word" slogans could help. I believe it's apartmentlocator.com.

Hopefully others can help with personal reviews. 4951

less than $1000 per month is economical to me.  Thank you! 4951

Check out the apartments section under Real Estate on this site.  It leads you to Trinity Locators and they are a free service that has all the apartments in the KW area. 4951

I would suggest Woodland Hills apartments, on Lake Hills Drive, 77339. When we moved to Kingwood in the 90's we stayed there for 6 months and then found our home. As far as schools you would attend Woodland Hills El, Kingwood Middle, and Kingwood Park HS.Good Luck and welcome to Kingwood! 4951

These apartments are not what they used to be.   Questionable place to live with a family these days.

Depending on how large your family is and how much space you need you may not find an apartment for under $1000.  They recently knocked down one of the cheaper apartment complexes and raised all the rents at the existing ones.

I haven't lived in Town Center apartments in over 6 years but back then I had a one bedroom with a 10x10 den.  It was 860 square feet and I paid $785.00.  That same apartment is now listed as a 2 bedroom and goes for between $900 and $1000 I believe.

Good luck with your move and home search.  The 3 schools listed by @RoyAl68 are really good schools so you would be in a good area if you moved there but I haven't heard the greatest things about those apartments.  You would have to do a search on here and see what comes up. 4951

My niece & her small daughter lived at The Oaks and she really liked it.  It's a quiet property located in the back of Kingwood and is across the street from the Houston PD substation, and Creekwood Middle School is just down the street.  It's also close to HEB & Randalls groceries, the local Ace Hardware, & plenty of restaurants & shops.  I can't speak to the current prices, but she had a ~916SF, 2/2 apartment with a small, fenced patio and was quite happy there.  She said she felt safe, and the upstairs resident, an older single fellow, kind of looked out for her (in a non-creepy, big brother kind of way).  We (her family) were not worried about her safety at that location.  Hope this helps. 4951

From a voice of experience, you will not find a "nice" apartment under $1000.00 in Kingwood. It sounds like you have children, which would mean more than one bedroom. Most one bedrooms start at $1000.00 in Kingwood. 4951

The apartments are under new ownership and have done a good job cleaning them up and getting the rift raft out. I know they now have a couple of HPD officers that reside there and the crime stats have gone down tremendously. You can contact Kingwood Service Association and receive the recent crime stats for all of KW.Lets face it crime happens everywhere, do your due diligence. 4951

Welcome to Kingwood!  All of the middle schools and both high schools are very good within Kingwood (Humble ISD).Just to make sure you know, most of Kingwood is in Harris County, but the Montgomery County line runs diagonally through part of  Kingwood.  Some villages in the northwest portion of Kingwood are in Montgomery County and are in the New Caner ISD, pay Montgomery county taxes, and are served out of the Porter Post Office.  I've heard there are both pluses and minuses for each county.  Just wanted to make you aware! 4951

@RoyAl68:

My mother in law just moved out of there...her vehicle got broken into twice, there were open drug deals all the time, dog feces all over the property and next to impossible to get maintenance to do anything....she was paying $1078/m for a two bedroom and it was not worth it at all. She us so glad she bought a house and got out of there. 4951

@TallTxPines: I think you are talking about the apartments they knocked down and HEB is building there.  If it's the corner of Kingwood Dr and West Lake Houston they are gone.

The woodland hill apartments are scary. I know kings cove, harbor cove, and discovery at Kingwood are nice but they are pricy. $1300+ easy. IMT Kingwood was nice about 4 years ago when I lived there. The oaks is economical but hard to get into. I lived at Lonestar square in porter which are townhomes for 3 years and loved it there but they are usually full. Luckily no more renting for me. 4951
