Dr. Pepper delivery driver in Waco, undated. Yet another wonderful photo from Baylor University's Texas Collection:https://www.facebook.com/texascollection?fref=tsI just love everything about this image. It's incredibly sharp, and the fact that the various sodas are being carried in those classic wooden barrels is beyond fantastic. I wonder if you drank that Dr. Pepper and compared it to the sugar cane "Dublin style" Dr. Pepper that you can still buy today if they would taste the same. On the one hand, the recipe probably hasn't changed much. On the other, the wooden barrels might impart a slightly different flavor. It would be awesome to step into this photo and have a sip, eh?[For those not in the know, the Dr Pepper bottled at the Dublin plant in Texas used sugar cane sugar, not corn syrup for sweetener] 4951

Actually you need to add the flavor syrup to the soda water to create soda pop. 4951

No, it's a "Coke" regardless of the brand name or flavor. Coke is generic for all things "soda." 4951

@GoldenGirl: I witnessed a similar situation on an airplane when a guy was trying to order a Big Red.Flight attendant had never heard of Big Red, and the only thing the guy could come up with to explain it was "you know, a Big Red" 4951

Growing up in Scotland, the term was fizzy drink. When me moved to the US, there was a convenience store next to the high school with signs for Beer, Ice, Pop, and Bread.  Ice and beer were on one side of the sign, and pop and bread were on the other.I remember saying, "I understand Ice Beer, but what the hell is Pop Bread?" 4951

We called it pop when I was a Yankee born in Michigan. We moved to Texas when I was 8....first time I heard it called soda. But didn't matter I still wasn't allowed any except on birthdays and we had make your own pizza night once a month and mom thought it was abusive to make us drink milk with pizza...lol 4951
