I always ask people at work what are they going to do now for fun. Most of them, like 90% say they never really thought about it. They look almost depressed which is sad. I would retire right now if I could, so much stuff I like doing. I don't think I would ever get bored and would not sit in front of a TV unless I was in real bad shape, I don't even watch TV now. I'd rather learn how to do something or volunteer to work with a group I liked. Do you guys and gals ever think about ? If you are already retired what so you like doing?    4951

We don't think about it on purpose because we don't agree with how and where to spend it. We will have that conversation in a few years. 4951

After restarting my life and savings (or lack of)..... I will be 90ish before I am able to retire... I will still be handing out money and stacking chips then, but talking to myself more than to surveillance.... 4951

I do home health therapy with old people. I think the trouble is that by the time you retire your kids are grown and most people are on a fixed income once the paychecks stop coming.

As an adult with 3 kids I'd say it would be nice if all retired people wanted to do was babysit, but alas- my parents and in-laws only like to do that in small doses. Boo.

When you have money you don't have time and when you have time you don't have money. Story of my life thus far! 4951

I just hope I can afford my bills and food costs.  Retirement seems scary to me.   4951

Retirement didn't work out as well for me as I had planned.  I had so many things I wanted to do.  Then I developed health issues that prevent me from doing many of those things.  The worst thing  is lower back pain which becomes severe when I stand or walk very far.  Fortunately, I love to read and go genealogy research.  I also love to target shoot (handguns and rifles) but I cannot go to ranges where they do not have places I can sit.  I'm going on a prairie dog hunt this summer in Colorado.  I can do some yard work, but it has to be something I can sit to do.  I've got a new pressure washer and can clean my patio and driveway while sitting.  I have to get up and move a lot but that's OK, I'm in no rush!  My wife and I like to take driving trips.  I like the ocean/gulf so we like to go to Galveston and Corpus Christi.  We don't have many relatives left, so we like to go visit them.  Retirement could be better, but it could be a lot worse. 4951

Hubby hopes to retire in 3ish years, then maybe consult part-time for a few years.  We haven't decided whether to stay here or move elsewhere.  We only came here for a job and the climate is a little rough for me.  Hubby has a ton of interests, so I don't think he'll ever get bored.  He would like a more rural life, hobby farm.  We hope to travel and enjoy more time together.  He's been gone a lot for the past 10 years due to his career.  Maybe some grandchildren to visit one day.  He tells me have 20 more years to work Emoticon 4951

@Odin:  I would love to have a camp or house on a lake or river that has good fishing.  Someplace where I could get up, grab my tackle, jump in a boat, and fish until I was tired.In south Louisiana, there is so much water that you can afford something like that.  Lakefront property in Texas is very pricey because there are limited spaces.

@foxymama:  You're still young and have time to save.  Make it mandatory to yourself to put aside X amount of dollars in a 401k or some other retirement investment and DON'T TOUCH THAT MONEY and never stop putting that money away.  Even though interest sucks right now, compounding over 20-30 years can add up.

@Retired_Engineer:
We put 12% in 401k. But it won't be enough. 4951

At some point I plan on selling everything except my favorite guitar, moving to Hawaii, and playing bars and parties to make a little walking around money.  If I ever get lucky enough to have a well known artist cut one of my songs and take it to the top of the charts, I will accelerate that plan. 4951
