I went to back my trailer into the garage, and the big van wouldn't start...Or even turn over. It's definitely the battery, so I take look. It was a 2 year battery, with a May '11 date. At least it had a good run. That's the first time a battery ever just all of a sudden went out on me. Usually there's some warning signs?! Anyway, car guys(and gals):Since I have to stay here most of the day, and have the time to shop first, what's the best battery to get? It's a 2005 GMC Savana 1500 conversion van, with a 5.3 V8. There's a ton of electronics in it, in case that makes a difference. I also run my trailer winch off of it once in a while. And yes, I know I can look online for info(and probably will)...Just curious what any of you like to go with, and for what reason. Also, can I go up from what the manufacturer's specs call for? Emoticon in advance!  4951

interstate are pretty darn good, have one in my boat 5 yrs old and still running strong. Deka and odyssey are the best imo if you got the cash their $$$$. Odyssey is running 15% off 'till june 1. physical size will be your only limitations in going with a bigger cca battery. 4951

If it is just because it aint used very much, that is idfferent story unless it is just a bad battery.Wife's van sits outside, gets used like once or twice a month. I have one of these on the dash, plugs into a (always on) utility port 4951

@MTechnique: Yup. Buy the biggest baddest most amerage you can fit in the truck. Best prices hands down is wallyworld, sams, and costco.
Optima is supposedly the best for twice the price I could get two. BTW, have you checked your battery to make SURE its no good and not just low on electrolytes? 2 yrs old there should still be some warranty left and you can get a prorated discount on same battery.  4951

@MTechnique:

I second that! Also, keep good track of the purchase date and if it goes out before the warranty get the prorated price on the new battery. 4951

You can find high output alternators on eBay. Better than anything napa or any auto parts store has to offer. Make sure you buy brand new not rebuilt and the seller has plenty of good feedback. I put a high amp on my car that was dimming lights when I throttled down. Now I have power throughout. 4951
