I drink optimum nutrition protein powder for breakfast. Rocky road is my favorite flavor, I get it at vitamin shoppe (behind papa's bbq across from the mall in humble). 24g of protein per scoop. I generally just drink a scoop mixed into 8oz of room temp water, but it's also reeeally good mixed into some low fat plain Greek yogurt. Mix some almonds in for texture if you'd like. Protein (powder) pancakes are good. Lots of recipes for those online. If you're looking for cartons of protein for on the go, I like premier protein (Walgreens & Kroger sell them). 30g protein per carton. Low sodium beef jerkey is a good source of on the go protein. Low fat string cheese as well. Then as always, good ole' fashioned meat! 4951

Ensure. Best when you mix it half with whole milk. Protein bars specially the peanut butter ones are awesome. Spinach is a great form. Instead of fast food go to a deli like Jason's or subway. Or even soup and salad bars. Protien isn't just meats. 4951

Protein in fast food- that's funny right there. You want protein- cook at home. Go to the store and buy skinless boneless chicken breasts- buy in bulk. Bake them- divide them into 4 oz. portions and refrigerate 3 days worth and then freeze the rest. Slice them for sandwiches and take your lunch to work and for dinner eat a portion adding a good grain like brown rice or even better quinoa ( that grain has a ton Of protein) and a green leafy veggie. For breakfast scramble an egg and an egg white or go with old fashioned oatmeal. Those better choices will get more than enough protein in your daily count. I do use whey protein but honestly it's better health wise to get the protein from a "whole" food source. How many grams of protein did your doctor say you needed? You can figure it yourself- multiply your weight by .36- that will give how many grams you should eat in a day. I tend to go a bit higher when I am training for something- and doing more cycling, running and weight lifting.
Bottom line- stop eating fast food- it's crap. Think of your body as an engine- if you put the wrong gas in it - it's not going to run right. Use the high performance gas in it and it will run forever 4951

Ensure has quite a bit of sugar (good idea cutting it with milk)! If you can handle plain Greek yogurt with almonds etc mixed in, most brands like Fage etc have lots of protein.  Go to Natural Kitchen by Skeeters and talk to them about your needs/concerns.  The owner has years and years of education/experience in that arena. 4951

Ensure, I believe, also uses soy based protein, which isn't assimilated completely by humans.  Its amino acid profile is not as complete as other sources as well, so if you simply look at it on a cost per serving basis, it's not a good product for this purpose.Good suggestions above.  Boiled eggs are something you can do in 20 minutes, most of it hands-free, and have enough for snacks for a week if you boil an entire dozen at a time.  Tuna is another quick go-to option.  Most of the time I eat it straight out of the package, but sometimes I'll also toss in a bit of mayo for some extra fat content (I use a brand that has olive oil in it) and to provide satiety. As far as supplementation, I too like the Optimum Nutrition brand.  It's not the cheapest per serving, but it has a complete AA profile, is well assimilated, and I trust the processing.  Most of the time I use it in milk, cut a bit with water if I'm restricting carbs a bit, but it is palatable in just straight water too. You have to be careful with many brands as they will add fillers that bump up the grams of powder per serving, but actually lower the actual protein amount per serving. 4951

Jpgurl and Stealth83 are absolutely right! Eggs are the perfect protein! You can boil a bunch all at once, and put them in a cooler for lunches or snacks. Also the cooking up chicken breasts at the beginning of the week is a great idea. We do them.plain with just salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder, and then flavor them up different ways during the week with Italian spices, bbq sauce, Mexican spices or whatever else strikes our fancy! 4951

It's a misconception that you can't bulk up with healthy food. Body builders don't eat fast food or fatty foods. They eat clean and lean. Lots of good advice on this thread! 4951

Do your homework. Personally I stay away from processed foods and fast foods. Read ingredients. Chia seeds, hemp seeds also have protein not to mention lots of nutrients. There is a wealth of info out there. 4951

I was there!! I lost down to 93 lbs and was dying literally. Ensure with whole milk helped me gain some. But that's when they found a huge mass in my stomach that prevented me from gaining weight. I have now gained up to 130 the heaviest I have ever been! Instead of hamburgers eat at Lubys or somewhere you can have a meal. 4951
