Pass.   If he doesn't find enough suckers with $150 to make at least $400K, he just keeps the house and everyone's money.@djchavez0921 hit the bullseye! 4951

No it's in the contract that if he doesn't get what he wants and backs out he will return the money to all entry's. It shows to be on the up and up and legit. I like the house but it's way too small for the price, I don't care how good a location is, that house is smaller than many apartments and the winner/buyer still has to pay all the taxes every year on an appraisal of market value. It's kind of a unique way to sell. 4951

@Burnsway:  On the late news, they showed the family that is selling this house.  In it, he restated that he WILL refund everyone's money except the winner. But he also said that he hopes to get close to market value for the house with this "deal"?!?!

The entry fee is non refundable. According to this article and local 2 reported the same thing. If it works out for him, I might consider selling the same way! Could be a REAL money maker! 4951

This is from the article: The fee is nonrefundable if we find a buyer via this process. If we do not, we will refund the offer fee. I'm reading it as "I'm raffling off my house but there will only be a winner if I sell enough tickets."

Is it worth a shot for someone looking for a house in that area? Probably. Personally, I wouldn't do it cause I think he's a con artist who comes out on top either way. If he "doesn't find a buyer" (doesn't get enough money), he gives the money back and can always sell it the traditional way. On the flip side, the dude could make bank if enough people submit entries. All it takes is around 2,600 entries to get to what he's looking for; anything above that is icing on the cake. Nowhere in the article did I read that he would only take "X" amount of entries. Nice try but no thanks. 4951

Let's see i give $150 dollars put in a bid and the owner chooses the winner? That's not a raffle plus he is getting free advertising from the media.

The Heights Houston is overrated anyway. Your like four streets from gang bangers. You'll be like that car dealer gunned down coming home. I hope the new owner enjoys their cage. 4951

I know the Heights is trendy for some, but to me it's just old and in a bad area of town.  Give me a new neighborhood in the suburbs where you get much more for your money, and I'm happy. 4951

I feel it's a scam. They aren't going to give away unless they get 3000 entries. 4951

@angiekaye: A scam would be if he keeps the money and does not pick a winner. if you click to pay and put in an entry It says  if he doesn't pick anyone all entries get their money back. The money is non refundable if he picks a winner. Now where it gets tricky is he could pick someone he knows or a lost family member or something. But he has been pretty open about this as far as I can tell and I think he is on the up and up. 150 bucks for a 1 in 3000 chance to get a 400 thousand dollar home is actually pretty cool and I would do it if it was a home I wanted and could afford the Taxes. People spend way more than that on lottery tickets for a 1 in a million chance.

It's not clear whether the $150 buys the house or the privilege of buying the house. 4951

@squirtismyboy:  So, is the $150 an entry fee or to buy the house?  If it's a non-refundable entry fee, how can he say he will return everyone's money?  The more confusing something is, the more likely it's a scam.  Even when his wife denied that it's a scam, she looked back at her husband like she wasn't sure.
