Several waves of thunderstorms will pass through southeast Texas this week bringing upward of six to eight inches of rainfall to the area. This amount of rain could cause localized flooding on roadways and along creeks and bayous. In addition, high winds, hail, and even tornadoes could accompany some of these systems. What you should do:Residents should monitor local weather forecasts throughout the week. Severe weather can be extremely unpredictable with conditions changing rapidly.Multiple watches and warnings may be issued over the next several days. Monitoring the National Weather Service either on your NOAA Weather Radio or online is the best way to stay informed of the latest weather developments.Flooding is the number one cause of severe weather death. Whether on foot or in a vehicle, stay out of flooded areas. The depth of flood water is often impossible to gauge. Just six inches of moving water is enough to knock a person off their feet; one foot of flood water can sweep vehicles – even large SUVs – from roadways. Play it smart: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.Where you can learn more?Forecasts: National Weather ServicePreparedness & Emergency Information: www.readyharris.orgLocal Traffic: Houston TranStarLocal Flooding : Harris County Flood Control District 4951

Current San Jacinto hydrograph below. Here is a link to the Inundation Map.  You can click on a location to get a forecast water depth.  http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/inundation/inundation_google.php?gage=hmmt2

I guess gunspoint got hit pretty bad. I was suppose to close on my house today until they called to tell me they had to cancel because their office was on fire. I'm still yet to figure out why stuff catches on fire when it rains. Don't we use water to put out fires? It just doesn't seem logical. 4951

@Nicole4647: When I was a kid, the house next to us got hit by lightning in a storm-it burned down and it was raining very hard.

@Nicole4647: We've only have one, brief (and I mean really brief, like minute-long) shower here at the Beltway and Imperial Valley.  No storms or anything.

It's been very scattered rain cells, some very heavy.  Here in Greentree, we are slacking off now after a heavy downpour. The funny thing is, the prediction for today was only 20% chance of rain.  Now, the Weather Channel is predicting 80% chance of thunderstorms early tonight.Forecast for tomorrow (Wednesday) is 30% chance of scattered thunderstorms.  Cloudy in the morning and scattered thunderstorms developing in the afternoon. 4951

I live in Pinehurst, and when I left after dinner to come back to work, the streets were flooded. We'd been hit for about 20 minutes with a very heavy deluge, when I walked out to the street, the water was up over the curb. It got pretty dicey a few times driving through the water, and I was in a van! At one point, it stuttered and started to stall. Even when Ike hit, our streets didn't look like this!  4951

@Nicole4647: I totally agree that it doesn't make sense, but that being said, if a building gets struck by lighting and doesn't catch fire due to the lightning strike, it will likely fry some electrics inside the walls and thus cause an electrical fire which is actually spread with water in most cases.  So yes, why it does not seem possible, it is.  If the lightning fries the wires inside the walls, you are done for!
