Is it flea season yet cause they are driving me crazy. Can't even go outside without getting attacked by those tiny viscous things. Anyone having issues with them? 4951

Yes. we have been dealing with them for 3 or 4 weeks. I tried sprinkling diatomaceous earth on the carpets, bathing our pets with the leash and poo, giving them medicine, and also using the fleas liquid medication. Nothing seems to be working. 4951

I have treated the yard with Bayer Advanced and the dog is on Nexgard....  No fleas in the house so far?

It's the D$#& F*&#@$% mosquitos that are the biggest problem.   Cannot even go for a walk without being eaten to death 4951

What's happening is that the adult fleas are killed by the foggers, yard stuff and shampoo, but the eggs aren't killed. They then hatch in a couple of weeks and start the hell all over again. Ask your vet what to do to kill them all. Years ago there was a fogger named Precor that I bought from the vet, it was much more effective than the grocery store foggers. On the same day I would do the following: fog house, treat yard, take dog to groomers for a flea dip (he was also on the oral anti-flea med). I did this every three weeks for six weeks to get rid of a flea problem that a boyfriend's dog brought to my yard. Once I did all of that, I never had another problem.  4951

Diatomaceous earth FOOD GRADE ONLY, THATS VERY IMPORTANT FOR SAFETY...is the best safest chemical free way to go. You can safely dust your whole back yard making sure it can sit atleast 6 hours before rain. Make sure you get food grade only . Tractor supply carries 20 pounds for 12 bucks or 40 pounds for 20 bucks. You can also dust your dogs safely with it...google it and many videos on it. It can also be eaten but beware that its a parasite remover for both humans and dogs so if they lick too much make sure they stay hydrated incase they detox any worms. You can dust inside but its messy so do one room at a time, let it sit 4 hours then vacuum, dispose of it outside incase some flees live. If it gets wet on your carpet or furniture let it dry or you smear it like mud. Just let it dry then brush it up. It takes about 3 days for the flees to dehydrate from it so be patient. You can redo all you want but given its so dusty I would wear a mask if you or your dog are asthmatic. 4951

Are flea collars effective? That's the one treatment we haven't tried. 4951

I think this year is going to be really bad!  I have had to treat the animals every 3 weeks instead of once a month, treated the yard but all this rain isn't helping.   If it stops raining i will go out and treat again.  Doesn't help we live in the woods so to speak with many wild animals that carry fleas, like squirrels and such.   Revolution isn't even working long, and forget frontline that is almost like putting water on the animals!!!  4951

The only chemical route I ever go is way diluted flea shampoo and I rinse them really good and I way dilute it. No reason for all the chemical stuff folks. FOOD GRADE DE WORKS its a mess but its safe. Bad enough outbreak you may have to do it again but it works. it covers the flees and basically suffocates them and also dehydrates them that they just die. Because the dust may blow away or fall off your dog before eggs hatch is why sometimes you have to do it twice. My dogs are not asthmatic so I actually am dusting them ever day or so right now to catch any new hatchlings. I did this last year and we had a really bad outbreak and in a week we were 100% free of them. I dusted the back every 2 weeks due to other critters bringing new ones in. I always do it the day or several hours before rain so they have time to suffocate and  I let the rain wash all of them away while still in the dust.  After I spread it all over the backyard I have hubby run a lawn mower over it to blow the dust around better. Then sometimes layer it again, depending how tired I am...lol  I hate doing inside though because its so messy...that's why I just do one room at a time.If you have a good 1st distilled grade essential oil like Youngliving that is safe on pets you can make a chemical flea spray also. Purification, thieves, citronella, lavender and lemongrass. about 10 drops each in a 20 oz bottle filled with water(glass bottle only) Since its chemical free you can spray your dogs down often and also you or your furniture. 4951

I had a huge problem last year.  Did the DE thing in the yard and on the area rugs and it helped.  What really did it for us though was getting a (very expensive) flea collar from Pampered Paws.  I was reluctant at first due to its price, but my poor Vizsla was covered in them, you could see them crawling on him (he has no under coat)!  To my surprise and relief, the collar worked!  We still have it on him.  It is supposed to be good for 8 months but it still seems to be working so I haven't gotten another one.  It is good for fleas, ticks, larva, and lice, made by Bayer, called Seresto.  Paid about $85 for it last year and it was well worth it!  And while you are there, check out the collars in the back, they sell my collars there!  Emoticon 4951

@allymansfield: It's been awhile since I was in there.  Do you have a website of your collars?  We have picked up a few from Twyla's and right now she is wearing a green collar so a lot of people think she's a boy but it was a Cesar Milan for less than $2.00 bucks on clearance.  She usually has pink, purple or zebra print..lol
