Marijuana may be legalized based on religious groundsTexas Republican State Representative David Simpson supports marijuana legalization and is championing the bill. The Longview area representative has argued that because marijuana comes from God and therefore should not be subject to a government ban. Representative David Simpson is considered a Tea Party heavyweight in Texas.www.inquisitr.com/2072738/marijuana-legalization-bill-gets-ok-from-texas-house-committee/ 4951

I read last night that there are two bills.  One passed the House Panel 4-2 and the other 5-2.Neither are expected to pass the full House, though. 4951

Since this thread has to do with "Politicians," I feel it necessary to comment that I'm quite disappointed in Judge Emmett's actions when it comes to the Astrodome...  I initially thought he to be a stand up / take charge /  let the people's voice matter, kinda dude, but his constant need to save the Astrodome, for whatever reason, and at whatever cost it seems, has proven thse initial thoughts to be inaccurate....  If the people have voted to tear it down, scrap the crap, and quit wasting tax payers money, day after day, then that's exactly what needs to occur...  It doesn't matter how much he's in love with that nostalgic old building...  He was elected to represent the people's vote - NOT use his position to carry out his own personal motivations....  ...And I mean, it just seems that there's WAY more important pressing issues going on these days than him deciding to take a lil' trip to Germany, especially considering what the trip pertains to...  Hey Judge Emmett, there was a foiled, thank you Jesus, Islamic Radical Terrorist Attack on Texas soil, my friend, so you may want to reconsider your priorities, Sir....  4951

I have one teammate that lives on Vashon Island out in Washington.  The rest are in SoCal.  Although it's never been my thing and I would not use it if it were legal, I'm just hoping that Texas beats Cali to the punch so I can rub it in their noses.  LOL 4951

We already have a lazy *** nation. Why not legalize it in Texas and make millions more?

I was in Colorado when it became legal.
Within a month, we couldn't get service or decent food at the resturaunts.
Waitresses and cooks were completely incapacitated and unable to function.
My wife got food poisoning twice and we started eating in our hotel room.

It leveled out after a few months but not before numerous companies took action to stop people from smoking on the job.

I don't pretend to understand the reasoning but I personally see this as America taking another step toward becoming a lower class nation. We are already becoming lazy and irresponsible. Why increase the pace by legalizing pot? 4951

@Safety44: I don't understand how this isn't the same thing as drinking on the job.  Should be punishable by firing.  Derelict of duty is derelict of duty.

Well I am mixed on this issue and I do agree a lot of pot heads will dominate the roads making it less safer but at the same time there might be some medicinal use for certain people and now there is religion. 4951

@herron1345: This is what they should do with the Astrodome. Bass Pro Shops can come in and make it "outdoors" adventure world like they did with the Pyramid In Tennessee!

Many of the oil companies took that exact approach. However, many of the smaller (nonindustrial) businesses tried to live with it. Downtown got so bad that you could get light headed just walking down the street in the evening. 4951
