Not so silly if you have a VERY poisonous snake in your back yard and your children and animals play back there. I'll take a rodent any day compared to a potentially life threatening bite to my child.
@Nurse3: I would agree...if it were one of the other 3 venomous snakes we have in the area. Â Coral snakes are incredibly docile and one would really need to actually pick it up and try to hurt it before it would bite. Â Even then, they don't have fangs like vipers so it sort of has to gnaw on you for a bit. Â They stopped making anti-venom for them years ago because there just isn't a need. Â To be clear, I'm not advocating picking up a coral. Â To the contrary, you should give them plenty of room to get away from you. Â I've seen several of them over the years on the greenbelts and out at East End and every single time, they just want to get away and be left alone.Copperheads, cottonmouths, and rattlers...I'll leave them alone in the wild but I have no problem with killing them if they are in my yard. Â No reason to ever kill any other snake in this area. Â Not only are they not hurting anything or anyone, like it's already been said, they help control the rodent population.I'm no tree hugger, but I think education and familiarization with these creatures would go a long way for those of us residing in The Livable Forest.Just my 2 cents. Â YMMV.
