I'm not a sweet potato fan, so have been trying to figure out why a "sweet potato" could be better for you than a "non-sweet" potato, bottom line I found out is:The Myth: "Sweet potatoes are better for you than white potatoes."The origin: Because most Americans eat the highly processed version of the white potato—for instance, french fries and potato chips—consumption of this root vegetable has been linked to obesity and an increased diabetes risk. Meanwhile, sweet potatoes, which are typically eaten whole, have been celebrated for being rich in nutrients and also having a lower glycemic index than their white brethren. What science really shows: White potatoes and sweet potatoes have complementary nutritional differences; one isn't necessarily better than the other. For instance, sweet potatoes have more fiber and vitamin A, but white potatoes are higher in essential minerals, such as iron, magnesium, and potassium. As for the glycemic index, sweet potatoes are lower on the scale, but baked white potatoes typically aren't eaten without cheese, sour cream, or butter. These toppings all contain fat, which lowers the glycemic index of a meal. The bottom line: The form in which you consume a potato—for instance, a whole baked potato versus a processed potato that's used to make chips—is more important than the type of spud. 4951

About 20% of the nutrients and most of the fiber in a potato are found in the skin and a thin layer just under the skin.  When you bake a potato, eat the whole thing, including the skin!I like a small baked potato with just a little butter, salt, and black pepper. 4951

@FoFa....Hey, now, dude...  Don't be hatin' on Sweet Taters....  As they are perfectly deliciousness!

@Retired_EngineerSame here, R.E....  On both Sweet, and just plain ole Baked Taters,  all I need is just a lil' dab of butter, a sprinklin' of Salt, and some Black Pepper, and I am very happily good to go....

It's not that I don't like sweet potatoes...I just don't want them on my plate with regular food. To me, they're best served as a dessert. Now regular potatoes...They have ENDLESS possibilities. Baked potatoes being numero uno!! And there's none of this "dab of butter" here and "little bit of this" there for me...No, no! My baked potatoes are like a meal. Better yet, they're like an edible plate FOR the meal. I think I'll make some tonight since I'm hungry for them now. Emoticon  4951

I'm with the BBQ guy. I love me some sweet potato casserole but that comes after I've finished off my meal! 4951

I love sweet potatoes.  Both in desserts and just baked.  I may or may not add butter, depending on how moist they are.  No salt or pepper needed.  When I was younger, I sprinkled a little sugar and cinnamon on a baked sweet potato. 4951
