China has passed Mexico as the top origin of immigrants. As the article explains, in theory this includes both legal and illegal immigrants although the illegal portion could be "undercounted". I personally had no idea there was such a large influx of Chinese people to the US. http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2015/05/01/china-passes-mexico-as-the-top-source-of-new-u-s-immigrants/ 4951

@Humbletexan1:
Prepare yourself.
China is on the move!
They are taking oil and gas jobs everywhere, filling positions once held only by Americans.
Nearly all tourist related shops and resturaunts in Europe (especially Italy) are staffed by Chinese.

Chinese is so hard to learn.  A friend of mine married a girl from China, her English is impeccable, almost no accent.  Yet he still insists on imitating her with a terrible Chinese accent in stories (its really funny because she just rolls her eyes at him).  Anyway, he has learned enough Chinese to be able to speak to her parents but he has told us that it is almost impossible for a non-native to be fully fluent.  From what he has said, one word can mean several distinctly different things simply depending on how loud or soft you say it, if you emphasize the first half, middle, or second half of the word, or by the word that directly proceeds or follows it.  He uses the most basic forms of the language to keep himself out of trouble.  Her parents recently moved to the US (legally) and are in the process of learning English.  I know a handful of Chinese words from when my husband lived over there while working on ships so I thought I would be fancy and learn how to introduce myself to them when I met them a few months ago.  Yeah....no dice.  I know how to say hello, but wanted to say "welcome to Texas, my name is".  Every translator I used was so fast I couldn't' even get a hint of what it was saying to even try.  I told my friend and she translated to her parents, they just laughed and shook their head in understanding.  At least I tried!  At least with Spanish some words sound familiar so you can guess.  Not a chance in hell with Chinese! 4951
