@donnamarinac: Did you notice if they disinfected the dremmel (sp) attachments after each person? I stopped getting nails put on because none of the places ever changed out the file heads. I'd like to find a place that does.

I worked in "Infectious Disease Dept. at UTMB in Galveston" and I am very observant when I get services.I only get regular manicures because hospitals encourage employees in patient and around patient care not to have other artificial nails due to infection control. 4951

@topcat: Kingwood Nail & Spa, right around the corner and next to Randall's individually packages all materials used on mani/Pedi's after they are properly disinfected and treated.  I was not a fan of nail salons until I saw this practice.  Now, I regularly go every 4-6 weeks, usually right after my hair color is freshened.

@topcat:  Wait a minute while I go and Google dremel bit.  I want to know what the hell you are talking about before I form a thoughtful response. EDITED:  Yes, all metal tools.  The rest are disposable and tossed out when complete. Did I mention they also serve wine and mimosas while you are being served?

I go to Kingwood Nails and Spa, and I do love them, but no, I've seen no evidence that they disinfect their dremel tools.  I suppose it's possible that they disinfect them between customers, but I doubt it. 4951

@JeepHair:

I know nothing about manicures but do know dremel, and given the cost of most bits I doubt they chunk them and replace between customers. 4951

The reason I asked, is that years ago It hey nicked me with the dremel and I bled. It got me thinking about how many other people get nicked?  What if I had HIV or Hepatitis, and the next lady got nicked? That's when I stopped going.  I'll check out your place, @Donnatella.  you had me at mimosas. 4951

Yes. Love Tracy at Tipsy Nails! She the only manicurist I've had who does shellac that ACTUALLY stays on my nails! Plus they offer discounted prices on certain days of the week or when you pay with cash. I don't like full artificial nails, so I've never noticed what their dremmel cleaning policy is, but I'm sure if you ask they would be happy to soak it in alcohol before they use it on you. I know people can get nasty infections from salons, but I guess it's pretty much a crap shoot.  4951
