Mailed my quarterly federal income tax return from my home. The envelope had a return address sticker from my business. Two days later, checking my business mailbox, and there was my tax return. They sent it to the address on the return address sticker instead of the government address in Connecticut.      I remailed it at the post office and they said that error in delivery can happen if the envelope goes into the machine backward??  Seriously? I ordered something from Amazon that they shipped USPS, a week later they said it was returned as address not found.  I checked the order address and resent it so it went UPS, surprisingly they found me. 4951

@tatertot58: I think it can be postmarked today and still be on time. Hoping so anyway! I don't want the hassle of trying to argue with one government entity that another government entity is just as dysfunctional as they are.

How about this one.... Several years ago, I mailed off a car payment in the pre-addressed envelope to Tulsa (I think).  A few days later, a stranger from Katy calls me.  He had received my envelope in HIS mailbox.  He was kind enough to call me and let me know that he was putting it back in the mail, but he wanted to let me know in case my payment got delivered late. Now, how does the USPS send an envelope to Katy instead of another state?!?If I order something, I will pay extra to use FedEx or UPS.  Almost every time the USPS has tried to deliver a package, there are problems (late, damaged, delivered to the wrong address, never arrived, etc) 4951

I ordered something online. The estimated delivery date was February 21. March 16 I received it. Then just a week ago the estimated delivery date was the 23, I got it today. It was on priority 2 day mail.  4951

Last year, I had my post office in Missouri mail me a special delivery priority package to a hotel in Denver, CO.

I tracked the package to the contract postal delivery office one block from my hotel. It was logged into that office at 3:30 AM. It never arrived at the hotel. When I went to the postal office they had no explanation.

Unbelievably, they found my package two weeks later (in Philadelphia, PA). A lady USPS person had them return it to my home address in Missouri.

More than 30 days later, I received the package. And they were gratious enough to NOT charge me extra for the additional expense they experienced.

In Kingwood, I'm more fortunate. I receive everyone's mail in my box. 4951

@Safety44: Yes! I've met many of my neighbors while delivering their mail to its rightful place. Think I'm gonna start turning in my hours to the post office and collect my fees.

A friend sent a birth announcement to our old Kingwood address (about 2 miles from our house). It took 6 weeks for the post office to forward it.

I mailed an envelope to Toronto 4 weeks ago and my nephew still has not received it. Nor have I received it back either. Sigh.

And my mail lady - we should receive the circulars on Tuesdays, due to the stores' sales starting on Wednesday. It's a good week if I get them delivered on Wednesday. Typically I receive them on Thursday. My mail lady is nice, but to get our mail delivered before 6pm only happens because someone else is filling in on her route. We've had evenings where we hear the mail truck at 8pm. 4951

What a mess the postal system is. And we pay for their losses every day, in tax dollars, lost or misdelivered mail, and time and effort spent trying to straighten out their screw-ups.  4951
