I don't believe so, unless they've been installed within the year.  I lived in KW for 30+ years and never heard them.  I'd never experienced weather sirens until I relocated to Wichita, KS.  They were scary!!!! 4951

This was near one of the elementary schools where I grew up in SW Houston.  Loved the sound they made every Friday at noon!  They were more for air raid warnings but could have been used for anything.

No, but most iPhones, upgraded security systems, weather apps, etc., you can set up multiple severe weather warnings, specifying tornado warnings in your immediate area.  It takes time for someone to get the warning and push the button or fire up the siren.  The today's technology, you can be notified instantly.  4951

That TV thing is truly annoying Emoticon Most of the time it doesn't even apply to your county. 4951

@thegoodwife: YES!  I worked with a guy who lived in the back end of Kingwood and a tornado hit a few years ago, touched down and took out ONLY HIS HOUSE.  He was kind of an ***, probably karma.

The tornadoes here are different than the ones in The Midwest. The ones here are mostly F0-F1 and they don't stay on the ground -they pop down and bounce right back up. Combine that with how large the counties are its impossible to have sirens to warn.
Up North and tornado hits the ground and can stay on the ground for a long time and can have a huge swath of damage. I've been here 12 years and until last Sun the closest I've come to a tornado touching down was when I was driving down 59 near Victoria- the funnel cloud came down but never hit the ground- just skimmed along about 100 yards off the ground.
I think a funnel cloud overhead last Sun during the hail storm. I only suspect that because the new dog who has never reacted to a storm- started barking at the ceiling.
As Donnatella said- best bet is to have a weather app on your phone that will alert you 4951

@allymansfield:

That same one took two of our neighbors trees, twisted them off about 10 feet from the base & dropped them on our property. They hit our garage roof cracking a support beam, then rolled off crushing our shed. The tops landed four feet from our dining room window where my kids & I were. It was terrifying. The trees were at least 18" diameter. Folded the shed up like a taco.

Even so, sirens wouldn't have helped. Where would we have gone? No basement & we're surrounded by trees. 4951

I thought that the sirens were only in OKEmoticonI was little, but when they went off, you ran to the cellar.  No waiting.  You ran.The tornado we had here in Kingwood a few years ago, was terrible.  Several people lost their homes in the back.  And they were good people.  The kids were just devastated.  I will take a Hurricane any day of the week.

@Fallon: BuT the problem with hurricanes is they can spawn the more serious tornadoes F3 plus!! We were lucky with Ike and Rita and didn't get any - but if memory serves me correctly Katrina spawned a few

Been living in Houston 34 years, and tornadoes hardly ever cause damage here.Does it happen, sure, but I think like I have heard about less than dozen events (not counting water spouts) since I have been here.Nothing like the midwest.Sirens would typically be a waste of money and time for tornadoes.Hurricanes we have plenty of notice of.Typically don't have raging fires like California.Have NEVER been bombed by aircraft since I have lived here.What else could they be used for? 4951

Thx, all good info. I was surprised to have a tornado alert on my phone weather app yesterday morning. But I only noticed it because I was checking the weather. I was half asleep without my glasses so I didn't read the small print to see if was actually for us. There wasn't an audible warning, which I do get for some weather events. 4951
