I'm just looking for a church that DH & DD like more than anything. I honestly don't think there IS a church out there that's right for *me*.
As I first stated, I was raised catholic. That is what I've known the majority of my life, so when I go to baptist and even some non denominational churches and experience things like standing and singing poppy KSBJ sounding songs for the first 45 minutes straight of the service, it just doesn't feel like real church to me. I'm used to singing the same catholic hymns that even my grandpa sang when he was a little boy, that everyone knows by heart and doesn't need a projector for. A few hymns spread throughout mass. I like going to church for the message, not to sing so much that I'm praying that THIS is the last song... but it seems like it never is, lol. BUT I understand how catholicism might not seem appealing to jump into to an adult who didn't grow up this way.
It's odd to me when I'm in some baptist or non denomination service and someone is randomly filled with the spirit of the Holy Ghost and starts shouting "yes lord, God is good!" or something in the middle of the sermon. Now, don't get me wrong. I AGREE wholeheartedly & am thinking that on the inside! That sort of thing just doesn't happen in mass, so it's not that it's wrong or bad, just strange to me because it's not what I've known my entire life. Talking while the priest was talking was disrespectful in mass.
And I think it's great that so many churches are so involved, but a lot of newer churches just seem a lot more... pushy? Than Catholic Church! "Yes I enjoyed the non denomination service, but this was my first time even visiting and I'm not interested in hosting a women's luncheon or organizing a youth lock in. I just want to slip out quietly because again, I was just visiting."
BUT Catholicism isn't for everyone and there are certain things about it that I'm not crazy about myself which is why I haven't been pushing it heavily on my own bunch, plus DH literally falls asleep in mass. And he was raised baptist so he doesn't know the prayers or responses or order of things in mass, so I guess I understand. I dunno. As long as I can find a church with a good pastor who delivers solid messages weekly where there's also a great youth program, I can put my own issues aside.
