I applaud your efforts.  I have been on three mission trips to Costa Rica over the last 25 years.  It is a great opportunity however we raised our funds through working rather than donations.  It is my feeling that there are funds/missions needed here in the US rather than in a foreign country.  Good luck in your endeavors. 4951

I'm just not familiar with missions fundraising through gofundme requests. This is one of several lately, but my experience has been through group car washes, bake sales, yard mowing, youth handyman projects, etc. and most are endorsed and underwritten by the church sponsoring the group. Straight up requests for handouts would be done during service, maybe with a special offering request.

I worry that some might fall prey to the latest trend in cons/scams. Please be careful when given by money online. 4951

I have to agree. There are so many of these lately, and I'm sure people feel bad donating to one and not the others. I understand your efforts, but I think working for the money would be best. I'm not saying you're a scammer, but this seems like a good time of year for the scammers to come around and to say they're using the money for something similar. There's just really no way to back any of the claims up online. Good luck. 4951

@donnatella:

Yea, I'm not a fan of this begging for money via gofundme, or any way for that matter. This is a church thing, keep it in the church community or on an individuals Facebook where they are asking from friends. This is the third one in as many days. How do we know it's not the same person? My gut tells me this is bad/scam. I wish Joe @kingwooddotcom would ban these gofundme posts. I'm tired of the begging. They should post on the classifieds after being vetted. 4951

Agreed.   Up until the last 4 or 5 years I have been on many local, US and worldwide mission trips.  We never asked for donations outside the church and if we did we worked for the money by doing car washes, mowing lawns etc.  I think the gofundme page(s) was a good idea when it started as a way to help people who are truly disadvantaged and in a real need however like anything else people have jumped on the band wagon and think it is an easy way get the fund they need for what they want to do.  I wonder if gofundme has any rules etc about what can be asked for and why?  Seems maybe not....

Are you local so we can use you for a few odd jobs?

@Stealth83: I did a little research.  OP is from Humble and joined KDC to post her request...  Belongs to Church of God in Christ and is participating in the mission trip(s) via Youth on a Mission Team.  Building and repair churches, provide medicine, education and technology, awareness and many other things are the stated goals.  Money is for room, board and things needed for the trip
