Ok guys I really need some help. I know some of us come on here looking for painters, plumbers, electricians and so on. I need a good carpenter to replace some rotted wood with hardi- plank! Can you please refer someone to me?!?!
Have you replaced yours and if so by whom?!

Thanks 4951

I just called John Hinkle, he does more than painting so he's coming out to give me an estimate. 4951

We had Payless Siding replace all of our exterior wood with Hardiplanks and boards back in 2009.  This included all siding slats, corner boards, framing around doors and windows, fascia, and soffit. After the installation, they painted everything.  They did very good work.I had several of the original cheap compressed wood slats and corner boards rotted away.  Wherever water got on these fake wood boards/slats, they rotted.  Instead of trying to patch it, we went ahead and replaced it all. 4951

Is it Hardi Plank or wood you are replacing? I'm thinking about going Hardi Plank, most of my home is cypress plank but the new cypress is thinner and cracks easily. The guy who replaced some of  mine used pine since it does not crack as easy. Fairly easy job, just cut the new stuff the same size as the old and paint.   4951

@bubbleyes72, he did work for my next door neighbor.  Blew a lot of smoke up their butts about how great he was, and what all he could do.  The work done was shoddy.  They had to hire someone else to do over what they paid him to do.  And they had to threaten to fire him to get him to show up everyday to complete the bad work.

I was there to let him in and I did see the work.

So if you hire him, be aware that you will have to watch the work he does, and be prepared for him to not show up everyday.

Both my neighbors work, so it was a costly thing to them, after they took the day off and he didn't show up.  This was a few years ago.  Maybe he is better now. Personally, I would find someone else.
@Fallon: Okay, thanks for the heads up. 4951

@Fallon: Hi there,
Can you please let me know if your comment is directed at ARP? I don't recall an instance where we had a customer go through what you are describing but my memory may be failing me. Since you mentioned that it happened several years ago I don't believe you are referring to us as ARP has been in business for a year this past April however want to confirm.Thank you for your time. 4951

since this bubbled to the top again, a suggestion for the original posting person: ask the bidders how they will be nailing the hardiplank. the right answer is a nailgun with stainless ringshank nails. hardiplank doesn't lend itself well to handnailing because it has a tendency to break from the hammering. the stainless is to prevent the little rustrings when you paint and ringshanks mean they don't back out easily and loosen up. 4951

@ProblemAgain: Why aren't you using hardiplank screws? Nailguns have the potential to crack/break hardiplank and nails, over time, the wood forces the nails out and we have repaired this issue before in several homes. The swelling of the wood forces regular nails out.
