I may be needing to take my teen daughter to the ER or urgent care today. She's had a pretty severe stomach ache for the past couple of hours.

I'm debating whether to take her somewhere today or get her in tomorrow at Kelsey-Seybold and would appreciate recommendations for either urgent care or a good ER department.

Thanks 4951

First check which ones take your insurance, assuming you have it.  Some don't take certain programs.  I've used the one on WLH just south of the Kelsey Seybold office for basic stuff and they were OK. Severe stomach pains for several days might warrant going to the emergency room at a local hospital - you might end up there anyway.  4951

Kingwood urgent care is wonderful. They have done some serious stuff for us. And never charged us more.

Neighbors ER also has good service but you will get bills after services are rendered, this happened to me 3 times. Almost $4500 in bills after my er copays.

If you do decide to take her to the er, I would suggest taking her to Memorial Hermann's satellite er on beltway 8 near summerwood. Hardly ever a wait there. 4951

We started out at the drs office and had to decide which hospital to go to. We opted to go to texas childrens and were very very happy with the care there. If we need to take anyone of them back Thats were we will be heading. 4951

I second the satellite Memorial Hermann.  There is hardly a wait, you can schedule an ER appointment online also.  If you have to be transferred, Memorial Hermann NE will usually cover the price. 4951

@HollyHobby: you might have already made a decision, but Kingwood Urgent Care is considered a regular GP office visit on my insurance, so check your coverage. All walki-in ERs are also covered but at ER rates. Please do hesitate to go to an ER is truly needed.(better safe than sorry).

I hope everything works out alright and your daughter feels better soon. 4951

Thanks, everyone. Her stomach pains have been a mystery for about 3 months or so. The doctor did some blood work in February and we've been watching her diet. We thought it was maybe a sensitivity to dairy, but this morning she didn't eat anything with dairy, so now we're kind of back at Square One.I'll make an appointment with the doctor this week. An x-ray is the next step he wanted to take. 4951

@HollyHobby:

I know she is young but a CT scan with contrast would show the most. You can also try avoiding gluten.

She's been eating the Trim Healthy Mama plan since last September and has been staying on it VERY strictly, so it's easy to keep track of her food. That's why we didn't plunge ahead with a lot of medical tests -- we really wanted to see if there was something in her diet that was causing intermittent pains. This week she gave up all dairy and for about 5 days, we thought we had finally found the cause, but then there was today -- about 3-4 hours of pain. Some, she graded a 5 or 6, but at times it was a 7 or 8 -- on the 1-10 pain scale.  It's been a real mystery, actually. I don't remember her having these pains prior to the Trim Healthy Mama plan, but since it's a VERY healthy way of eating, it's hard to pinpoint the problem. 4951

I have had good luck with Med Springs, but I second the idea of getting a Cat scan.  There are innumerable things that could be causing her pain and until you get a picture you are only guessing. 4951
