Any body know a someone that refinishes furniture at a reasonable price?
I have a table that basically needs a light sanding and refinishing--- no breaks in the wood.
Thanks. 4951

You lost me at reasonable price. There are people on the classified that sell refinished pieces, but for an obscene markup. You might contact them to work something out? Maybe they will cut you a deal for providing your own furniture.  4951

I bought an electric sander at Lowes', It was about $25. Without any experience sanded all my kitchen cabinets over about 3-4 weekends and repainted them. They look fine. We took the doors off and did them on a table in the garage. It truly isn't that hard. I found sanding to be quite calming & relaxing. 4951

I've refinished tons of furniture, it doesn't take a Rembrandt. I guess because it's so easy to do, I get offended when people want to pass it off as skilled labor. @19vet82 If you're interested in DIY at all, check out some YouTube tutorials & well,do it yourself. It's much more rewarding! 4951

@OhHappyPets: it depends on what you mean by refinishing. there is a world of difference between slapping a coat of varathane on a piece and actually refinishing a piece using shellacs or laquers.

Any quick fix to just remove a hazy finish
Resulting from placing a hot item on the table?
Tried white toothpaste and saw the olive oil idea. 4951

@19vette82: I don't know how to post videos, but this shows how to use an iron to remove white heat marks.

@OhHappyPets: I'd be interested to know what you consider to be "skilled labor", then. Within 30 seconds of seeing a piece, I have to be able to tell a customer what species of wood, type of finish, and how much it will cost. And get it right the first time. It's nice to be able to laze around and do work whenever you want, but please don't insult others that make a living at something.

It's not that easy from my experience. The wood has to be conditioned with a mixture of laquer and mineral oil so the stain is very uniform. If you skip that step, you are going to get something that looks like a rookie did it. The idea is that to get a uniform stain, you have to have a uniform level of absorption for the stain to blend well. Without that step you will have darker spots, lighter spots...it won't look very sharp. You also need to understand sanding. You can't just use one grade. You have to start heavier and scale it down. All in all, it's a very time consuming process. Anybody that tells you different does not have an issue with the uniformity and the cosmetics of having something that looks stoic. 4951

Ooookkk, so I was specifically referring to people who chalk paint 80's particle board crap furniture & sell it for $500 a piece here on the classifieds. Sorry to ruffle feathers guys, it's hard to indicate sarcasm in type form. 4951
