This man has adjusted to suburban life a little TOO well, I think. He's taken a liking to birds, and has a few different kinds of bird feeders in the yard. A few weeks ago, after trimming one of our smaller trees, he had to move one of the bird feeders to a corner of the yard that's kind of wooded with the trees behind us. Well, this location proved way too accessible to the squirrels, who could just mosey off one of the other trees to this bird feeder and have a feast. To spite the squirrels, he went out one day and cut off the branch that they were using. He came walking into the house, snickering, quite pleased with himself for foiling them.Of course, being squirrels, they weren't deterred. They just started leaping from the fence to the bird feeder. After doing this for a little while, they broke it.So he went out the other day and bought himself a new bird feeder. This one is supposed to be squirrel-proof, when the weight of a squirrel lands on it, something magical is supposed to happen, causing the squirrel to slide right off the thing and fall to the ground. This morning, when I woke up, DH was standing by the bedroom window with his coffee, watching some squirrels eyeing the new feeder, and muttering under his breath, "Come on, ******. Give it a try."He's unhinged. And it makes me laugh so, so hard. 4951
My father used to battle the squirrels. Â A few years ago he also bought one of those special bird feeders. Â it was good fun watching those suckers slide off the feeder. Â Unfortunately, they worked at it for a while and figured out how to defeat it. Clever little bastards. 4951
My Dad had a bird feeder that was perched at the top of an iron pole. He used to grease up the pole with vaseline. It was the funniest thing to watch them take a running jump at the pole and then slide back down it; wipe their paws in the grass and try again. Â My husband invested in a BB gun and just takes them out not. Little effers have been gnawing at the wood around our upstairs windows. Â I'm glad to hear my other half isn't the only one out to take down the population! 4951
I have no problem with the squirrels. Â I put out peanuts, sunflower seeds, and a birdseed mix. Â I have squirrels, cardinals, blue jays, crows, and several small birds coming around. Â My dogs love to watch them as much as I do. 4951
They are the bane of my existence. My dh thinks they are going to ban together and mug me one day.
@Fallon: @Ellamentry doesn't like them either.   They ganged up on her one day and threw acorns or something all down on her when she was on in the driveway. Maybe it was crows, 4951
My two don't chase them hardly ever anymore. They learned the squirrels are faster.I do have  Neighbor who uses a pellet rifle on them in his yard, when they are in the bird feeder.I hear it go off sometimes. 4951
Just like retired engineer said no problem with them, my DH feeds them peanuts. They make the dog crazy... she can't get close to them - but when the chase is over we always say "Almost got em" and then laugh. 4951
