I'm not bashing anyone, I am genuinely curious.What is everyone's reason behind keeping their dog outside all day, if you do? 4951

Unless it is raining or cold (or intensely hot) my dog is outside so she can potty whenever she needs to. I'm right by the greenbelt & with all the opossums, raccoons, rabbits & other critters I am afraid to have a dog door. We have a big yard, she has toys & she has a favorite napping spot. If I'm home, she lets me know when she wants in, but she seems to enjoy the fresh air. 4951

I have a dog door, it's a good one. Cost around $200 . It has magnetic strips and brushes along the edges of the flaps which are double flaps for a good seal. We have coons and possum but the door has a slide in cover which I put in at night. Never had a problem with anything getting in the house, not even a mosquito. You get what you pay for I guess. I could not deal with letting them in and out. For one, I don't like dogs, that's my wife's thing. Sore subject for me because she got two dogs while I was away without telling me, then another one, same thing. I told her I'm really close to moving out. Awful situation.   4951

Ours are inside dogs, but when it's cool, they will stay outside most of the day.  They both have black hair, so when it's cool, they can lay in the sun.  When it's hot, they only go outside when they have to. 4951

Ours are spoiled inside dogs. I did train them to hold it for most of a day if need be, but I'm here most all of the time. If we are gone for a long time, they are in their crates. If it's more than a day, we have a dog/house sitter. I'm not judging anyone either, but there's a slew of reasons why I(personally) wouldn't leave them outside.  4951

My dog door is open all day and I work from home so I can monitor things, but they seldom go out during the day, even when the weather is nice. They lay in their beds all day and the owner (wife) never takes them walking. I have the dog door really for myself because I don't want to be a part of the situation.  4951

We have a beagle that just loves herpeople. She'll go outside if we are there but doesn't like to be left out all by her lonesome. I guess she's pretty spoiled too. 4951

@Nurse3: Mine is the same way.  Early morning I leave for work and the hubs comes inside to do things she will lay behind the outdoor furniture (with the fan on her) and sleep for a couple of hours. otherwide she's in & out depending on where we are. She must be near her peeps!

Ween will only go outside if I go. He trained me that way. Sneakers loves to explore at night sine we back to the green belt. We let her out, she barks. Then we let her back out and in and out and in and out and in ALL EVENING! She drives me crazy! I can't let her bark and can't keep her cooped up in the house either. 4951

My boys are inside dogs and outside mainly only if we are there to keep an eye on them. I've heard too many horror stories. They're spoiled but I don't care. They are wonderful dogs and our family. 4951

@SoonersinTX:
I watch mine outside like they are my children. They are tiny amd I would be devastated if they dug out. One isn't so friendly and would freak out if she got lost. No kne would be able to catch her. That is one of my worst nightmares. They are my babies!

Little Brat is an inside dog, and big Brat is an outsider. When it's hot/cold or storms then she comes in.  4951
