I'm not sure but even if another company comes in, they will use the same infrastructure. It needs a lot of upgrades. 4951

Yea, I think the issue is there is not enough population to warrant two companies to compete and make a profit. 4951

There has to be an actual contract somewhere.  Trying to figure out who would even be the right person to ask. 4951

@fofa, that hasn't stopped google fiber in any of the areas they deploy to.  And kingwood is sufficiently dense to support that type of rollout with the expectation that it crushes the incumbent provider (which fiber at a reasonable price would do).  4951

Its insane that in this environment that they get to enjoy a complete and exclusive monopoly. Someone, somewhere is getting their palms greased to create this situation. NO competition? THEY dont care because they dont HAVE too. Its wrong what they have, an absolute monopoly. 4951

So, what are we (The People of Kingwood) going to do about it?! If we all cancel our services (as I did) they will be forced to leave or get their pricing/services together!!! 4951

I have seen people complain about Time Warner, Comcast, AT&T and any other provider. Hook a exterior antenna up and go on internet based streaming sites for movies via roku or better yet a good Desktop PC with a good video card hooked to your television. 4951

@bubbleyes72:

You're right. I cancelled two Suddenlink contracts at my homes this past month.

I've tried dealing with Centurylink and hopefully have Internet when I get back there. However, dealings with then thus far leads me to believe ill live without any Internet for a while.

I'm going to switch to free TV as well and drop DirecTV as soon as I return.

I don't agree that these companies are still trying to recoup their investment either. It's all about greed!

You all are dreaming, I have never heard of any cable company losing an area. The only thing that happens is they may get bought out.

And careful what you ask for they all have their problems and you probably aren't going to get a better deal with anybody else. Even the satellite programs I have priced quickly get to cable pricing if you try to match up service. 4951

I finished my 2 year contract with dish and threatened to drop them . They locked me into the welcome package $20 bucks a month. I still have access to PPV and a few movie channels. Along with my internet I shell out $90 bucks. 4951

@ET:  Very true.  The original cable company here in Kingwood was locally owned.  They were bought out by Suddenlink.  So Suddenlink now owns the satellite antennaes that receive the signals via satellite, the boosters that strengthen the signal, the cable transmitters, and all the cables and fiber optics throughout Kingwood.Cable is not like an electricity provider.  They don't HAVE to share their network of cables with other cable companies.  Even if they did, they would charge an outrageous fee for the use of their cables, making another cable company non-competitive.Edited:  The same thing happened to our local land-line phone company.  I forget the company name when we moved here 22+ years ago.  They then sold out to Sprint.  And then Sprint sold to Century Link.  Century Link owns the switching stations and all of the wire and fiber optics involved up to the main lines

My internet provider was also bought out by Suddenlink almost a year ago.  Luckily I've had no changes in my service yet, but I fear its coming.  I was paying around $58 a month for what they called turbo speed at the old company.  Suddenlink took it over, I was never notified prior to that taking place, and my bill automatically went up almost $7 a month.  Haven't had any service issues, but I keep my fingers crossed on that. 4951
