If you missed the Kingwood Mobility Public Stakeholder meeting last night, here is a recap of what we can expect the final plan to look like.City Council Member Dave Martin lead the meeting along with Stan Sarman of the TIRZ board. A representative from Gunda Corp, the engineering firm that conducted the mobility study, was also available for comment along with various members of the steering committee. Dave Martin's Office and the TIRZ board are currently working to secure funding from local governmental agencies* in order to implement a plan developed by the steering committee members. This plan is not finalized but is expected to include (all timelines are tentative):Starting in 2016 until 2018 -Northpark Drive expanded to six lanes from U.S. 59 to Woodland Hills Drive with a grade separation over the railroad tracks. The flyover is expected to be ~1200 feet in length and connect before U.S. 59 but past 494. This includes service roads to access side businesses and 494.Starting in 2019* until 2020 -Kingwood Drive expanded to six lanes from U.S. 59 to Woodland Hills Drive with a grade separation over the railroad tracks. The flyover is expected to be ~1200 feet in length and connect before U.S. 59 but past 494. This includes service roads to access side businesses and 494.The plan also includes various intersection improvements (addition of signal lights and timing improvement, extra turning lanes or extensions on the turning bay length) which can be viewed here: http://gundacorp.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Kingwood-Area-Intersection-Improvements_A1.pdfCost:The total cost of the project is estimated at 124 million dollars. -$14.5M for Intersection Improvements-$28.5M for Northpark Expansion-$29M for Kingwood Expansion-$26M per Grade Separation*The City of Houston program "Rebuild Houston" (implemented in 2010 by voters) will make ~$18 million in funding available to Kingwood Drive improvements in 2019. Dave Martin mentioned that  an idea to annex the segment of Northpark Drive that falls in Montgomery County is being discussed and was looked upon favorably by Montgomery County Judge Craig Doyle. (Extremely Tentative)*Local governmental agencies collaborating to fund the $124M include:-Office of City of Houston Council District E-Texas State Senator Brandon Creighton's Office-Texas State Representative Dan Huberty (District 127)-Texas State Representative Cecil Bell, Jr. (District 3)-Montgomery County Judge Craig Doyal, and Commissioner Jim Clark-Harris County Commissioner Jack Cagle (Pct. 4)-Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT)-City of Houston Public Works & Engineering (PWE)-Union Pacific Rail Road (UPRR)-Houston Galveston Area Council (H-GAC)Future Developments/Improvements: 4951

And the only option that is funded is turning KWD into an equivalent of FM1960? 4951

Stopping at Woodland Hills will just create a bottle neck at Woodland Hills, thus causing more congestion.
But road construction is usually 10 years behind the times anyway. This is more like 20... 4951

There is always a occupancy limit on buildings. There should be one on towns. You should not be able to construct more housing and apartments without understanding the impact on getting in and out of  the "building". This is the apex of the problem; letting more and more in without a plan to enter and exit the town in an orderly manner. Build the roads first, then, once that is approved housing can increase. Doing it the other way is very painful on everyone.   4951

This is interesting.  They really need to take the 3 lanes all the way back to W Lake Houston Pkwy though.  Woodland Hills intersection on Northpark is a mess in the morning and afternoon already.  I don't see how that helps with that congestion. 4951

@ittabit: Apparently, the funding is not available to carry it back that far.  As it is, nothing will be started until 2019 at which point we'll probably all be miserable.  Thousands of new homes, multiple thousands of new cars.

Will take a while to work out the details.

Hopefully a LONG while.  We do not need this.  People need to plan their time better and remember why they moved to KW anyway.  In my 15+ years I have never been in such a traffic jam on KW Dr. that would require extra lanes of traffic unless there was a signal outage, stalled car or accident.  COH is full of BS!!!
