Have any of you been to Armand Bayou or the Cypress Swamps which is on the lower Trinity River.

I've been following a website, www.artistboat.org. I'm not really interested in their paid tours but I am interested in their Kayak destinations, which is listed under the tab, Public and Private programs. The two I mentioned are listed there. I might pay just so I can check it out the first time. Pretty sure I need to be on the water this weekend. 4951

Armand Bayou

@Francita: Yep.  It's mostly a swamp.  But it was my favorite play to go to as a kid (lived just a few miles away and worked right next to it for a few years as well).  There is a cool park there with a top notch dog park (if you are into that).
Might be some ducklings out there now.  I may check this weekend. 4951

@Odin:

I looked it up I satellite. I see the park and rec area. Do you know if anyone can park there? It's not like Kingwood where you have to have a sticker or you get towed? 4951

@Francita: Anyone can park there and there is no entrance fee.  The park's actual name is Bay Area park, but it is adjacent to the Armand Bayou conservation area and nature center.  Right next to UH CL, not far from JSC.There is a canoe/kayak launch there as well.  http://www.hcp2.com/parks/park-listing/102-bay-area-park

I have been canoeing there before.  It was quite peaceful and nice to see all the different birds etc.

I really want to do the cypress swamps, but I can't find it on the map. To go with them and use my own equipment is $25.00 for a 4 hour tour. I might do it but it's not my preference. Plus when you go with this group, I can't bring even one beer and I have to wear a life jacket the whole time. I do like to sip on beer while I'm relaxing, not get drunk, but a beer or two is cool, and I only wear the life jacket when in rapids or rushing waters. I hate corporate rules. Lol. 4951

@chilladahun: Sure.  But wasn't the rocket ship near the CL rec center?  I have fond memories of that rocket ship.  Good place for the teenage years as well....I think it was moved (or there is a new one) at another park now, maybe Challenger Park. 4951

@chilladahun: That's the original.  It is welded shut at the bottom now but still in the same park near the rec center. 4951

@Odin: welded shut?! That's worse than the plywood space shuttle!

@chilladahun: Don't get me started on that!  lolOnce we get a real President maybe we'll get a real shuttle.Anyway, @Francita... it's a great area to Kayak or Canoe in.  I did such for many years there.  No gas powered boats are allowed in the bayou so no worries about getting flipped over by a speedboat or a drunk bass fisherman.  Now "Clear" Lake itself is not so clear.  You don't want to spend a whole lot of time in the water in the lake itself, not that you can with a kayak (too rough).  But it's awesome for sail boats.
