What are typical noise ordinances in the local HOAs? My backyard neighbor started hammering and running a power saw at 9:15p. And he's still working away. Emoticon 4951

If it continues after 10 and it's really that annoying, you could probably call the non-emergency HPD number and tell them it's a public disturbance. 4951

@ctl74: We fall under the COH ordinance.  10:00PM - 7:30AM.  Call the non-emergency number and they'll send a unit by...eventually.

Yeah, and all the cop can do is ask them nicely to stop being noisy. Don't waste the time making the call. 4951

Why do people just always want to call the police? What is wrong with walking over to your neighbor and asking if everything is ok? Since you heard the noise at this time of night you wanted to see if he needed any help... Sometimes being nice goes a long way... you might even find that you like your neighbor... All of my neighbors, with the exception of the ones directly behind me, have been in place since I moved in 16 years ago. We know each other well, we actually speak to each other, and watch the others homes. My neighbors know I travel a lot, so they check on my wife and she knows she can call any of them at anytime for assistance. (She has had to a couple of times!) If folks were more neighborly you might find you enjoy living in your neighborhood more, and not being so quick to call the police, will give the police the chance to actually police some.. .(some of this is the rant of a former officer that hated getting those calls that could better be handled by neighbors being neighbors) 4951

Some of us having neighbors that we have already met and don't care to meet again. A bunch of my neighbors are very hostile and just plain weird. If it was 10:00 at night, I definitely wouldn't be going over there. 4951
