@beastmode:  I think you meant beef melt instead of beef milk.  Beef melt is the spleen of a cow and was also our preferred bait when I was a kid.I can't imagine how many sacks of crawfish we brought home during those years.  I remember my father thought it was a bad day if we brought home less than 12 sacks.  20+ sacks was a good day.  We purged, scalded, and picked crawfish meat after spending the day catching them.  He would always save 1 sack for boiling in seasoned water for us to eat.  It made for some long days!

As a kid, I always thought it was called beef milk too. It wasn't until later in life that I learned that it was beef pancreas and that the coonasses I hung out with weren't the most articulate peer group to learn from. One of the mysteries from my childhood continues to be the answer to the question - how in the heck did we ever get our hands on beef pancreas?  4951

Well BooBear, let me share some advice on sucking heads. You can't just yank the head. You have to have a good grip. Use two hands. Crank the head, work the vein, then take the meat into your mouth. Follow by putting most of the head in your mouth and squeeze it, sucking until you can swallow the juice. Then grab another and keep them coming. The best can handle two heads at one time - one in each fist. Repeat as often as you can until you just can't handle anymore. Chase it down with a longneck when you get tired of sucking - it also washes down the saltiness of head juice. 4951
