When asked about where the U.S. stands on the legalization of marijuana, Obama uttered 15 words sure to send shivers down the spines of marijuana supporters:I do not foresee, any time soon, Congress changing the law at a national basis. In other words, we have a reinforcement from the president that the federal government is still concerned with the potential long-term effects marijuana might have on a user in terms of its potential addictive qualities, as well as its potential to increase crime rates. 4951

Or government doesn't want a society of calm and collective individuals......I personally hate weed but will be first in line to vote for its legalization. 4951

I don't believe for a second that anyone is concerned about the long term health effects, and the crime rate argument is laughable.  Marijuana is illegal because someone has a financial incentive to keep it that way.  I am not a conspiracy guy, and I do not own a tin foil hat, but I firmly believe that all you have to do is follow the money.  Big pharm comes to mind as just one.  Misinformation on the subject comes from somewhere. 4951

So we continue down this road and leave the cartels and black market to continue business as usual. I say put the farmers and shop owners to work and tax it but allow adults to make the decision to use or not . Its not for everyone.

Alcohol does more than anything else out there. You see what prohibition got you nothing but bloodshed. There will always be a market for feel good drugs and drinks. Laws can't fix it and it's a money maker for law enforcement. They say,"We need more vehicles, guns, money to stop the illegal activity. "

@ForeCPA90: "big pharma?" What a joke. If and when it gets legalized, eventually you will be complaining about big marijuana.

Eventually it will be legal. There is too much money in it not to be at some point. Just curious what regulations and manufacturers will do to it..Tobacco was a natural plant at one time. 4951

@chilladahun: Why is that a joke?  Pharmaceutical companies have huge amounts of money tied up in R&D and want to protect their investment.  As an industry they are one of the largest and most powerful lobby groups in the country, of course they are going to campaign against legislation that could potentially lead to competing products.  I'm not complaining about big pharma in general, this is no different from a mining company lobbying against environmental legislation that hurts its bottom line, or Indian groups lobbying against legalized gambling.  I'm simply stating that it's all about the money.

@staylifted...Naw, dude...  I didn't even hear about it, to be quite honest... Many, Many Thanks for the heads up, though, my friend, as I will search for it On Demand.... 'Tis true, we are livin' in crazy times, but the history of man's existence pretty much sums up that sentiment!  ....We must always continue to lift up our people, and by "our people," I mean ALL people, in thoughts, prayer, education, truth, and in action, so that we may one day learn to live in truth, peace, harmony, joy, and love, and treat one another as we would have ourselves be treated...

Notice that Obama stated that he didn't see CONGRESS changing the law on a national level.  It's typically the conservatives that don't want to legalize marijuana. When enough states legalize it, Congress will eventually come around, but it's going to take time. 4951
