No fleas. We never have em. Still have some DDT from 35 years ago. Insects and nasties dont frequent here.Homie has been scratchin a lot lately. Saw a couple of reddish spots. Put some medication on it, still scratched. Today I gave him a really good bath with some Oatmeal shampoo for dogs that is supposed to be good for the skin. Momma is gonna get some benedril and we will try that. I put some Vet oinment on after the bath. Seems to be doing better....Dont know what got into him lately. 4951

My bully developed allergies last year.  He's 8 and it just sort of started all of a sudden.  Nothing in his routine, food, or circumstances changed.  I give him 25mg of benadryl every night now and it seems to have taken care of it.  Watch your pups nose, though.  I was giving him 50mg for a bit and it dried out his sinuses so bad his nose dried up and cracked. 4951

My chihuahua doing the same. Noticed he now has 2 sores on his back. I have bathed him several times with oatmeal treatment and still his skin is bright red. Even his mouth area. I am starting to think he got into some poison ivy or something outside. I only found one flea on him. I started giving him a little Benadryl and that seems to help some 4951

One of my dogs is allergic to red dye so I have to buy him all natural organic stuff. What a brat. Anyway, it could be something with his dog food. 4951

Allergies are BAD this year- the 5 year old dog is on steroids- the new addition just started itching - the old dog is on steroids in hopes that the tumor wasn't a tumor but a reaction of some sort. The swelling is reduced but sadly I think it's really a tumor like the vet thinks. I've been itching and scratching too- cranky pets and people in this house- hubby is hiding in the garage 4951

Mine hasn't started but every year she gets a steroid shot. Poor thing can't sleep and keep me up too. She scratches her skin raw in some places.

@Ray, mine is 135 pounds and I give him 3 benadryl.  I buy the generic ones, and they work fine.  My vet said I could give him 4.  But 3 works fine.  I have to give him his well before a storm hits, or his nerves get so bad he throws up. For hours.Thank God for tile floors!

@Annie: So I think the vet's intention here sounds like it's to knock the pup out or make him at least seriously loopy due to anxiety caused by storms.  Giving my boy 1 is an ongoing thing to just control his itching.  It doesn't slow him down even for a minute as far as his energy levels, etc.
Unless I'm reading the situation wrong, we're talking about two very different things.  4951
