Got a craving for popcorn tonight. I love having a hot air popper. Just add a little butter and salt. Mmmm... Hit the spot on this raining evening. 4951

@foxymama:  That's probably because they don't clean the popcorn maker often enough or have scorched some.  If it's OK, we get a bucket when we go to the theater, but ONLY if it's popped on-site.  Some places buy it pre-popped and packaged in a large bag.  Then they just put it in a box to warm it up.Eating popcorn while watching a movie is mandatory for us!  Yeah, I cheat those days!

I work Downtown and in the tunnel below my building there is a store that makes fresh popcorn.  The smell is to die for!  It draws you in and before you know it, you are walking the tunnels eating popcorn. 4951

I have a Whirly Pop, and the kids like to help turn it. I use coconut oil, and if I have time, fresh finely ground Himalayan sea salt. Otherwise, I just sprinkle it with Morton's popcorn salt (not flavored). DH likes it with melted butter. I like to douse mine with hot sauce. 4951

@Mahm: I tried coconut oil, but I found peanut oil seems to give a more butter taste and feel.
Didn't like light olive oil at all, and regular veggie oils (safflower, corn, etc.) didn't do much.I do however put a couple dried red chilies (like you get in Chinese food you can't eat) in the oil before I start the pop, and it does impart a slightly spicy taste.I usually also use some popcorn salt on mine. Although the instructions say you can put a 1 or 2 TBL of salt in the oil/popcorn before starting and it will evenly salt the corn when done, it seems to just clump in the bottom. 4951
