the howard johnsons restaurant chain used those to have prepared meals for their customers. when you ordered, the 'chef' would take a bag of what it was that you ordered out fo the freezer and drop it in a pot of boiling water. after the correct number of minutes, they would drag the bag out and plate the food for the waitstaff to serve you. what all that means is you can bag up portions of chili, pot roast, stew or whatever for later use.
@ProblemAgain: what i found for wet stuff ,like soup or chili ,was to let it freeze in the unsealed vacuum bag first then once frozen vacu seal it. Otherwise it always made a mess in the vacuum sealer.
