I do for sure!! From what I remember Mercurochrome didn't sting like Methiolate did. Of course, mama always went for the Methiolate... If it didn't sting, it wasn't working... Wasn't that the one that was also called "Monkey Blood?" 4951

@magnoliamam: OMG I read paregoric and instantly could taste that licorice taste and wanted to BARF. My Mom gave me that crap whenever I had a bad stomach bug and couldn't stop throwing up!!!! I now associate throwing up with paregoric, 7-Up and lime green Gatorade.

@magnoliamam: We had paragoric as well... YUCK!!! (I remember at some point she had to "sign" for it at the drug store.)Then sometimes we had some sort of green stuff that was really bitter... And I can't even remember the name of it... Donnatol??? Then there was Terpin Hydrate (sp?) for coughs... Man we had some drugs going' on!!!

@WJo:

I remember lower prices than that!

But I also remember my first official job paid less than $0.80 an hour! Taking into consideration that starting salaries now are about 20 times that amount, costs haven't gone up much.

My father raised nine of us kids on $40 a week. But we didn't live in a new built home with all new furniture, drive a new sports car, go on two or three vacations every year, buy BMW's fir our 16th birthdays (we ride a usef bicycle), and we didn't support a series multi levels of political groups that raised our taxes every year!

So go figure... 4951

@safety44....we had  huge garden & we raised most of our food in that garden , bread was made the old fashioned way ( not in a machine) & our water supply came from a cistern . Don't know if you remember the "Easy 8" washing machine but that's what we had & I was given the important job of feeding the clothes through the ringer from the time I was 8 years old . Boy ! did I feel important ! I got my 1st job at 16 & I made 90 cents an hour working at White Castle , I thought I was rich , I worked after school & week-ends & made about $100.00 a week , not too bad for a kid going to school back then .It's nice to think of the "good old days" but the medical aspects have moved us into a better & healthier life style now than we could have had back in the good old days. 4951
