Wow!!! That's hard to believe!!! Last time we were in there, it was packed!!! That's really sad... Hopefully the workers can find jobs elsewhere or at least transfer to another store... There aren't that many places to shop in Livingston!!! 4951

That wouldd be a pretty far commute .. hopefully the employees weren't just surprised and many had already found a new job.

Seriously though? A Wal-Mart...the only one in a pretty good distance, went out of business?? Is that why they closed? 4951

LIVINGSTON, TX (KTRE) - Walmart is closing the Livingston store for six months starting Monday night for renovations and displacing around 400 workers in the process, according to a company official.

Company spokeswoman Anne Hatfield said full-time and part-time employees are being told they could be transferred if they wish. Those who are not tranferred may be qualified for a 60-day severance package.

Walmart is closing to renovate the store and fix plumbing issues that could not be resolved without closing the store.

According to fb it is one of a few closed today under the statement "plumbing problems" and may reopen in 6 months.

Also affected are lots of people who get prescriptions there at reduced prices. While they can get them elsewhere the price may be higher.

@Stealth83:

Or they can go to another Wal-Mart pharmacy..or they may find it just as cheap...no need to look or create drama for hypothetical situations.

The pharmacy will be open for another 2 weeks for people to plan for getting prescriptions elsewhere. 4951

Too much of those brown paper towels going down the toilet.....I hope all of them are able to get transferred though. IMO, if they aren't able to get transferred (transportation, etc..), Walmart should pay the severance for the entire duration their home store is closed. js 4951

It would be a great time for HEB to step up their game in Livingston. There is a nice Brookshire Bros. there, but the HEB is horrible!!! 4951

I'm not generally one for tin foil hattery, but this does not pass the sniff test.  More to this story methinks. 4951

If "several" Walmarts are closing to fix plumbing problems, I suspect a design or construction issue.  Since it will take six months to do, I suspect they have to tear up the foundation to get to the pipes.  That is, IF the plumbing problem is not a smoke screen.   4951

That sucks as I used to go there during the deer season when I had a lease in Polk County. They had more neat stuff than any of the local walmarts in the area. 4951
