It's impossible to sit outside with the wasps and bees during the day and mosquitoes at night. Has anyone used either a dry misting fan or regular fan to keep bugs away while you sit outside? Does it work? 4951

@QueenB: I would guess not, since mosquitoes bite me even when I'm biking.
A lavender oil candle (or applying the oil onto your skin) is a great, natural repellent. I've seen other insect-repelling candles, and it seemed like they work. 4951

I have a large outdoor fan and it works wonderfully for this. Its an airmaster. This is the exact one I have. WAY better than the big box store versions. It has swivel wheels, 3 speed one hp belt drive... 4951

@Ray, I made my dh return that one.  First of all it was in a goshawful orange, and that wasn't happening.  And secondly it was unreal loud.I think the noise kept the pests away as much as the wind. And the wind this sucker makes is like a mini hurricane. We got one a couple sized smaller, and it is super quiet, but does put out a lot of wind.  Not enough to knock you out of your chair, but it does keep the bugs at bay.

@Fallon: Is there some a model no.? Might be a viable option for the upcoming season of pestilence!!! I really hate using repellents. Reminds me of the old days when mama sprayed us down with "Off." No matter how hard you tried, at some point you were "tastin it!!"

The stuff at Kingwood Garden Center is called Skeeter Skreen.  Or something like that.  It is all natural.  You put some kind of sticks in a jar with the oil in the bottom.  This diffuser, keeps even flies away.

It covers a large covered patio.

It comes in sprays too.

@Fallon: I'm gonna get some of this. The fan is good but I guess I prefer hearing the birds sing vs the sound of a hurricane fan. Thanks y'all!

My Father always used a large fan outside & it seemed to do the trick. We have a pedestal fan we use sometime along with an outside fan we have in the roof over our patio and it seems to work. 4951

@QueenB:  As others have stated, a fan will keep the mosquitoes away, but it has to create a pretty stiff wind.  However, if you move out of the direct strong wind, the mosquitoes will be waiting for you.  Mosquitoes don't like to fly when the wind is strong since they aren't built to handle it.  A gentle breeze won't cut it.

No, but most citrus and citronella along with purification essential oils will. But unfortunately bees like the ones made out of flowers, found that out the hard way......don't ask. 4951

I bought one of these overpriced gadgets:[pic]http://www.homedecorcoupons.com/images/solarpronew.JPG[/pic]  I've gotta say, I'm not impressed with it.   Try the fan, it's a lot cheaper. 4951
