I've been reading up on B-12 lately as I need to increase my intake.  I'm not a Vegan but while looking for resources on natural sources of B-12 I came across some info.   You cannot be a Vegan and get sufficient B-12 naturally.  You either have to eat fortified foods or take supplements. Ergo, humans were not designed to be strict Vegans.  Yes, I'm bored.   4951

@Odin:

I would be willing to wager that most of this country is deficient on b-12 and D.

b-12 and D.

@Okiedokie: Yes.  I'm actively working to improve my health and fitness on multiple fronts so have been getting lots of tests done recently.  Vitamin D and B12 are deficient and most people are.  I was extremely deficient in Vitamin D which appears to explain some things.  So, back to supplementing for that (I used to years ago).   When we are done with non stop rain, I'll make sure to get daily sunlight to get Vitamin D (no sunscreen + no bathing for several hours is necessary..).

@Odin:

I am very curious, how does beef liver contain B12 if cows are vegan? Yes, that is a serious question. No sarcasm.

I was also wondering about that supplement you were taking last summer to improve your skin pigment. Did it help? I glow in the dark and burn to a crisp, so I could use some tips. 4951

Speaking of "Vegan," dudes, I scored this new Cookbook from Amazon a few weeks ago, The Forest Feast: Simple Vegetarian Recipes from My Cabin in the Woods, and it is absolutely just lovely....  I've made a few of the recipes already, and in all honesty, it's pretty righteous...  @BooBear   ...Yo, Boo, I've actually been meanin' to let you know about this particular Cookbook, as I know that your daughter is a Vegetarian, and I think that she'd really dig, and appreciate this read...  (I really think you'd like it too, Boo...)    Link On Amazon:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1617690813/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&ampEmoticonsc=1                              4951

@Mahm: Bovine intestinal flora create b12 while metabolizing the digested grass.  Humans also have flora that do the same, but studies demonstrate that the conversion is not high enough in most people.    (read this earlier today).The tyrosine didn't do much as far as the tanning goes... as far as I could tell.  Just have to take it slow.  I did go from goth white to pinkish, so that was an improvement.

Vegetarians should be ok as long as they occasionally eat cheese and/or eggs.  Lots of B12 in cheese. 4951

Speaking of Bovine intestinal flora... I recently had my very first glass of raw milk in my life.  It was amazing. I've heard it was good, but I was set up for some letdown (possible hype).  Just the opposite.  That crap we call Milk in the grocery stores?  That's not milk. 4951

@Odin: That's not always the answer- I spend most days riding my bike outside 1-3 hours at a time and I was deficient in VitD - even the doc was surprised. It took me almost 2 years of supplementation to get it within acceptable range!!! Good luck- I feel so much better

@Jpgurl:

I take prescription vitamin D and potassium. The sun just doesn't cut it for me as far as vit D goes.

@Jpgurl: Any sunscreen?  Even a little disrupts it.  The other angle is that if you don't eat enough fats (cholesterol) your body doesn't have the building blocks to make vitamin D no matter how much sun you get.  Also can't bath for a while or it doesn't get generated in the skin.  I've read that 24 hours no bathing was necessary, but I can't do that.  Not until I execute my Plan B and become a beach bum on Waikiki.   4951

@Okiedokie:
goo.gl/maps/He1YJA friend posted about it on FB and I decided to give it a try.  They also have butter, which was also great. 4951

@Odin: I used to use sunscreen but haven't bothered unless I'm riding mid day. It sweats off in the first 20 minutes. Fats aren't a problem either. I take OTC and the doc said take up to 3500 units a day( I'm at 3000). I'm stable now- well I have more blood work in May
