What are the best places to shop for a used car?

Looking for a fuel efficient small sedan, like a Honda civic.
Something less than $10,000
Less than 100,000 miles

I'm not very trusting of most "used" cars but, If I were buying pre-owned, I would go to Carmax. They only buy the best and they go over them with a fine-tooth comb, plus guarantee their product.

Not what you asked for but outside of Carmax, I would also trust a certified pre-owned Lexus from a Lexus dealership.

if you have $10k and want less than 100k miles,, you should find something good with a warranty. 4951

@DVaz:

Lol, ask any used car salesman, every single one of their cars came from a 60+ grey headed Nana!

@foxymama: go to cargurus.com . You search using parameters of what you want (make, model, mileage, price range) and it pulls up everything for sale in the area from dealers and anyone that lists their car for sale on the site. It is very useful. You'll find something great if you have 10k. I found much better quality and lower milage starting at 7 or 8k.

We bought our last 2 cars at Carmax, and have been pleased with them.

My car had a tire pressure light issue and they fixed it right away. They gave us a loaner car & it was a pretty easy process.

We bought my son a car from the same Carmax to replace his Jeep Wangler (Sophie) and after he drove it back to school in Colorado the brakes were acting funny. He took the car to a Carmax in Denver & they replaced the brakes.

Carmax treated me well back in 2008. Drove that truck for 5 years. I have also had luck at the place to sell it yourself on Northpark next to the propane place. If you buy from an individual make sure they are lenient and will work with you to take it to your mechanic, not theirs. If they won't allow this then beware. 4951
