news.yahoo.com/video /man-bakersfield-cau ght-camera-punching- 062858724.htmlI am also baffled at the mom. Did she not see this? She just walks away. Are they related? I can't fathom why you would ever hit a toddler with that much hate. Seriously! 4951

Where is the story? It looks to me like the toddler is running in the store, away from the mom who appears to be pregnant. Maybe she asks the dad / boyfriend to catch him for her. It looks like her view of the incident could have been obstructed by the shelves, and then he hands the toddler off to the mom and says, "I caught him. Now go wait in the car." As far as the mom knows, the boy is crying because he was caught. I really hope the cashier (or whomever was filming) got the license plate number so this baby and this mom can be helped. If he will hit the child like that, he probably hits the mom too. 4951

The man in the video is apparently the little boy's father (I hate how that little boy raises his hands in front of his face in defense mode. Clearly, this isn't his first beating by this man. Emoticon ).

According to news reports, the man has been arrested on child endangerment charges and is being held on a $1M bond. Can't put my finger on a link right this second, but the father's name is Justin Whittington, I believe, and he's 23. Should be on Google.

Sure would like to know about the police questioning of that baby's mother! 4951

@Mahm: Dont get me wrong, sometimes toddlers need to get a spanking or punishment. I am a believer in spanking. Pain works for the hard headed. BUT to PUNCH a toddler in the face, no matter what he did is WAAAAAAAAAY over the top.

I hope you did not misunderstand me and read the rest of my comment. I did not condone what he did. It was horrible. I'm just not sure the mom saw. People are quick to judge the mom and she is likely a victim too. But CPS treats moms like this as neglectful. They call it failure to protect and she could lose the child until she jumps through hoops to prove herself a fit mother. The mom and the baby BOTH need to get far away from this man. But CPS pulls moms and children apart at a time that they need each other the most. Unfortunately, this kind of offense doesn't generally get a lot of jail time for the perpetrator. 4951

@Mahm: I think ypu're right. I don't think she saw it. She must have been in a different aisle when it happened.

I don't know how she could've missed it. They were in the open area of the same aisle she was walking down. My guess is she's probably also a victim of his violence and is too scared to say anything. Glad he's put away, and I'm interested in the real story. Here's a link with the current info: http://www.inquisitr.com/1999110/justin-whittington-bakersfield-man-arrested-for-punching-toddler-inside-store-new-video-shows-further-abuse/ 4951
