and I don't feel bad for being one either.......I left work at 5 (big surprise for me) and had to deal with the horrendous traffic on 1960.  I then get to the feeder after the Northpark exit and I see emergency lights ahead of me, so I move to the right lane because I can tell they are on the left side of the feeder. We are moving along at a snails pace, and I look over and see a motorcycle (about 20 cars back) snaking his way through between vehicles to cut ahead. "**** that" I thought....I moved my truck very close to the person who was in the middle lane, and they were like "WTF"? I pointed for them to look behind and then they were like "Ohh, ok" (thumbs up).Just because you ride a friggin motorcycle does NOT give you privilege to cut in line and beat traffic. I'm not sorry that you were ****, and **** YOU TOO.   4951

@Brat: You weren't being an a$s...you were just protecting that poor biker from being hit by someone potentially trying to change lanes, lol.

Be easy on yourself. You stopped an *** in his tracks. A lesser person would have used violence. You merely ****-blocked.

It's safer to do what you did under control than to have the motorcycle quickly zipping around you. 4951

Riding your bike between cars...lane splitting...is actually legal almost everywhere in the world and proven time and again to be safe and beneficial to traffic flow.  Of course, it's illegal everywhere in the US except California and I'm not sure it would work out so well here as the average American driver seems to believe the world around them disappears when they get behind the wheel.I'm not saying the guy was right or that you were wrong.  Just saying it's accepted and for good reason everywhere but here and that could change soon.http://www.gizmag.com/motorcycle-lane-splitting-filtering-safety-research/34425/http://americanmotorcyclist.com/rights/positionstatements/lanesplitting.aspxhttp://www.wsj.com/articles/motorcycle-lane-splitting-could-move-beyond-california-1425678764 4951

@shodan66:
There is nothing in those links that support the idea that lane splitting is safer. Each article says that it is but does not provide empirical evidence to support that position.

They closest those articles comes to a stat supporting lane splitting is where it says out of 7,XXX motorcycle accidents 1,XXX were the result of lane splitting. Without knowing how many motorcyclists of the 7,XXX were lane splitting, that stat is worthless. For example, if 2,000 motorcyclists where lane splitting and 1,000 were involved in accidents, then that is a 50% accident rate.

Lane splitters are trying to justify rude and inconsiderate behavior by cloaking it in safety and then throwing down the since-you-are-not-a-motorcyclist-you-are-not-informed-enough-to-understand card. I am not buying it.

I dont know if the cycle was right or wrong.

But i do know that i did this once and paid dearly for it,

Me and the driver in the next lane blocked the cycle and held him and other vehicles back in a long line to a similar single lane passing an emergency vehicle.

When we got to the single lane, the was a cop there. He pulled me over, explained to me that HE was in charge of traffic control, NOT ME! He also told me the cyclist was in the right and what I did was actually illegal and a safety violation (not sure if he meant obstructing traffic in general or specifically obstructing traffic near an emergency vehicle, but I went to court and he didn't show up. The judge forgave the cop for his none appearance and upheld the ticket.

The cop gave me a $185 traffic ticket and made me sit along side the road in my truck and watch traffic go past for an additional 30 minutes. The judge upped the ticket to $250 and added the safety violation to obstruction traffic.

This made me really feel like an ***$

Posted: April 3, 2015Texas motorcyclists could slip past slow-moving traffic under two bills proposed by Texas lawmakers.The proposed legislation would permit lane splitting, allowing bikers to travel in the middle of two traffic lanes heading in the same direction under congested traffic conditions.According to Senate Bill 442, lane splitting would be restricted to controlled-access highways. A rider could go no faster than 5 mph greater than traffic flow and traffic would need to be moving 20 mph or slower. 4951

@FoFa:
I'm not sure I'm following your line of reasoning here.

Are you suggesting that preventing a law violation to encourage social order is child-like, yet breaking a law in pursuit of a selfish interest is not? 4951

@chilladahun:
I think you misunderstood the stat.. the way I read it was they looked at 7,000ish motorcycle accidents total..of those accidents, 1000ish happened while the driver was lane splitting..meaning that 6000ish were regular accidents and comparing the 6000 to the 1000...the 1000 had fewer and less severe injuries as long as they weren't being a douche.

Nondouchery on the part of the drivers and bikes and trying to regulate that would be the biggest problem here.

I only ever see lane splitters when traffic is congested but still going the speed limit or higher. I don't like them because that is crazy dangerous for everyone in their vicinity, not just themselves.
