Another photo of Henry Ford with his good friends Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone (the tire guy) and E.G. Kingsford (the charcoal guy). In 1912, Henry Ford had all of this left over timber/charcoal byproduct from car manufacturing so he invented and started selling charcoal briquets for cooking. E.G. Kingsford married Henry Fords sister and as a wedding present he gave Kingsford that charcoal company.
These 4 men became very close friends and were known as the Vagabonds and often went camping together. When Edison's lab burned down in the early '20s, Ford gave him $250,000 to rebuild.
Until the 1990's when Firestone had that blowout problem, almost all new Fords came with Firestone tires as standard equipment to remain loyal to his good friend Harvey Firestone.
