Just an FYI, The Veggie Lady will be open tomorrow April 4 under the tarps in the parking lot of Holy Comforter Lutheran Church at 1901 Woodland Hills Drive Kingwood from 9am to 4pm.  She accepts cash and credit.  She will have an amazing selection of both local and organic produce to make your Easter celebration even more festive.  Just some of the yummy produce includes asparagus, brussel sprouts, organic green beans, organic purple potatoes,organic baby spinach, local red and green leaf lettuce, organic yams, organic fingerling potatoes, fresh garbanzo beans, local strawberries, local grapefruit and oranges and yummy grapefruit too just to name a few.  Looking forward to seeing you there.  4951

We did ask this question and she does attend the local farmers market in town center on Thursdays as she has another market in another city that she is already committed to that day and she was approached about coming to KW on the weekend as there is a lot of families can not make it to the town center market on Thursdays.   We love that she is coming on Saturdays and love all her local and organic produce that she brings to us that work during the week or in the evenings.  Thanks 4951

@skholow:
It has always puzzled me why the farmers market is on Thursdays during the day. I would go weekly if it was on Saturdays. The Veggie Lady will start getting my business tomorrow. 4951

So where is she getting the produce,because a lot of these crops aren't available in local gardens. My strawberries are just flowering and have just set fruit. My lettuces - ie spinach/red leaf and green lettuce are just aout spent. Green bean?? In your dreams. So where are they coming from and how are we guaranteed organic? 4951

You aren't guaranteed organic anywhere but your own garden. 4951

@ET: Yep- my point exactly! And local??? Fresh green beans aren't local right now. Neither is Grapefruit or oranges- those should've been pulled off 2 months ago- my guess because I received a "last" picking of oranges from a friend so I could make orange marmalade back in Dec. id totally support local and organic but I have a garden and I know what's available!
I am very Leary these days after I witnessed this....... I watched a dude take 3 carts of watermelons and cantaloupes and load them into his truck from a local grocery store. I headed home- unloaded my groceries and then headed to Home Depot in Porter. I saw the same dude selling watermelons and cantaloupes on the corner of 1314 and 494!!! He was doing quite the buisness. I was surprised and amused at the same time! Lesson learned- always ask the source

Some things are local organic, others are local or organic (USDA certified) and some are just hard to find items.
I have been two weeks in a row. We can't do Thursdays because of our schedule.
Why the animosity? 4951

@BusyMommy: Nope no animosity- I just know what's growing and fresh right now- because I have a garden. I just don't want to spend extra $$$ for stuff that's really not local because it's not in growing season right now. Honestly, the lettuce I'm picking( actually just finished harvesting from late season planting) right now is not as nutrient dense as what I can get at HEB. And green beans are warm season veggie. So I'm just asking where is it coming from? At least when I go to Farmer Bill's on River Rd and I ask him where he's getting his awesome tomatoes right now- he's going to be honest and say from Florida-he understands that some people do know what's in season to the area- and awesome tomatoes are not in season to this area. Neither are Green Beans,citrus, spinnach or leafy greens. Yeah we've had a longer cool season but we've also had some cold,weather that wasn't the best for leafy greens- I lost half of my romaine this winter

I just got leafy greens from my brother-in-laws garden this week, Kale and Swiss Chard. He also gave me bulb onions and fresh grapefruit he had just picked. He is in Galveston. 4951

I understand the questions.  But if she has a greenhouse she can grow for long periods.  I have a backyard garden and still have kale.  It has flowered though, so don't think it will last much longer.  I pulled my spinach a couple weeks ago to make room for cucumber seeds, but I bet it would still be good had I not pulled it.  It is strawberry season right now.  When I lived on the south side of Houston I use to go pick them at Frobergs.  They start getting ripe at the end of January. http://www.frobergsfarm.comThe only thing about farm stands or markets is that they are so much expensive than the grocery stores, usually.  Which is why I grow stuff in my back yard.   4951

Not everything is local. Much of it is, but some is from other sources. She tells you all about where everything is from. I got some Fuji apples that were organic but grown in another state. They were so delicious.At any rate, you cannot beat her stuff. It's just been awesome to have her come with her fruits and veggies. 4951

I don't think the questions had animosity either. Frankly, I learn a lot more from discussions where questions, concerns and different view points are raised rather than ones where there are none. For me, as much as I would love to grow my own produce, it isn't feasible right now. So learning about alternatives and options is so welcome!  I am also glad and want to encourage any and all vendors that are bringing these products to our community. I am willing to pay more for healthier and fresher produce than I normally find available in the grocery store. I also like to support small farms and growers. Learning about their origin and sources is interesting and helps me be more informed. 4951
