I have a Gateway that is old and I want to bring it to recycle tomorrow. What should I do to destroy any personal info on it?

Depends on how serious you are about getting rid of the data.  You can reformat the hard drive but that would only keep the uneducated and lazy away from your data.  There are tons of software products out there designed to wipe it clean as well.  IMHO, the easiest way to make sure it's gone is to pull the hard drive out, open it up, and snap the plate.  Like @friday1 says...breaking it is the the safest method if you've no intention of using it again. 4951

If you are talking about a laptop,  and don't have much experience with removing the hard-drive, an alternative (if you can tell where the hard-drive is) would be to drive a nail (or two) through the laptop and through the HD.  Another option is drill some holes through where the HD is located. 4951

@BooBear:  You should transfer all your old pictures onto an external hard-drive so you'll be able to enjoy them for a long time.

oh hell. if they are desktops, you can pull the hard drives easily and use them as externals by getting either an external box or a docking station. if you don't want to do that, you can download a DOD grade file and drive wiper which erases all the data and then overwrites it enough times to make it extremely difficult if not impossible to recover any data.here's a search result so you can access more information.https://search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?p=DOD+grade+hard+drive+eraser&ei=UTF-8&hspart=mozilla&hsimp=yhs-002 4951
