I need to buy a truck for work ASAP. Although I know a lot about cars, I know very little about trucks. My requirements are:- 1/2 ton (at least)- 4WD- 2013 or newer, new or used- under $35k- 4 doorI need opinions on brands/models, not specific trucks for sale.Thanks! 4951

I'm on my third Toyota Tacoma in the past 30+ years and I love it.  It's not a 1/2 ton but if the Tundra is anything like the Tacoma, I recommend it.  Each of my trucks have lasted 10+ years and I never had any significant problems with any of them.  I only sold them because I wanted to update.  My current truck is a 2007 and it's still like new. 4951

F150 with ecoboost, can't beat the fuel mileage and tow capability, I regularly tow 8,000 lbs with mine. 4951

@mgw300e:

I love my 2005 Dodge 3/4 ton 4x4. It's been great running up to our place in the country and the beach. Absolutely no problems with it in 10 years. For most folks, a half ton is probably a better option as they ride better, just don't have the pulling and stopping power when towing that a. 3/4 ton will. Nothing pulls like a Cummins turbo diesel. Only 17 mpg pretty much all the time. 4951

@buffaloglenn: Yeah, I'm kinda thinking that 3/4 ton would be overkill for my needs and probably too expensive.

Hubs has a f350 platinum. True work horse. Tows great. Rides nice and love the interior. Great work truck, has been really reliable. I wanted him to get a Toyota tundra but it didn't have the towing and engine he needed for work. 4951

Depending on what you are looking atEmoticon1)  Luxury(2)  Fuel Economy(3)   Longevity (4)  Hauling Capacity(5)  FiniancingAnswers .... (1)  Chevy or Ford or Toyota (2)   Toyota (3)   Toyota (4)    All are about the same(5)    0% for good credit on most trucks I would skip the "American" made trucks tha are made in Mexico and pick a Toyota Tundra that is made in San Antonio.   The new 2015 have all the bells  and whistles and will last well more than 200K miles with very little maintenance.  Good Luck !! 4951

If you're working on it yourself, I'd say Chevy. The 5.3 is easy as far as oil changes and air filters and fuel filters.

Toyotas and nissans use 7 quarts of oil so it gets expensive. Plus that Toyota is super thirsty.

My second choice would be a ford either an f150 or an f250. Both are nice but look under the hood. Those wierd round air filters are a B if the latch is messed up. If it has the square air filter it's easy. 4951

Is diesel better than normal gas?

@Stealth83:

Diesels are just now entering the marketplace for half ton trucks. Dodge has one and next year Nissan will have one, in the 3/4 or 1 ton market diesels are king. 4951
