Just got out of a staff meeting. Layoff announcements will take place on Wed the 8th in my group. They are taking place right now in other groups. We will be told one at a time if we are being let go, staying in the same position, or being moved to another group or position. A bunch of long faces, mine included. In my group, I'm the last one hired, and one of only two that does not have a master's degree. I'm thinking a news release will come out tonight or tomorrow. 4951

I'm sorry.  Sending happy thoughts and positive wishes your way.  Hey, if you want to go across the street for a drink after work, just holler!  I'm on vacation in less than an hour. 4951

@donnatella:

Thanks but tonight I'm going home and eating right and hugging my dog and going on a long bike ride then going to bed early. Its been an emotionally taxing day. I tend to try to take care of myself on these type days. I tend to drink and do happy hour when I'm in a great mood. I don't drink when I'm down because it makes it worse. I appreciate the offer though. 4951

Sorry you are dealing with this new info.  Hopefully, since you don't have a masters that means you have a lower salary so they will keep you.   4951

That's very amazing and honorable. I just wanted you to know that. It's so important that you don't forget to take care of yourself especially in a tough time like the one you're going through.

I have a lot of respect for you, and no matter what happens, it will be alright. It may not be ideal, but it will be okay.

Never lose that faith and strength that I have noticed in you.

@Francita:  Sorry to hear this is happening at your workplace.  On the bright side, if they are paying those with degrees more than you, that might save your job.  My company "encouraged" many senior engineers to "move on" and replaced them with young inexperienced engineers.  The companies equipment failures went up and downtimes were longer, but they did reduce their salary budgets!Best wishes to you whatever happens! 4951

So sorry to hear about more layoffs.
Ive been in oil and gas all my life and always managed to stay ahead of the layoff list... Just lucky i guess because i had mo degree but held a degree position.
I didn't see your response to what you do but if you let us all know, maybe we can grab you before someone else does.
Like others have told you, keep the faith. This is only another of numerous setbacks that have come and gone.
We'll get over it as long as we stick together.
Positive thoughts, that's what it takes! 4951

Thank you everyone. Its more the not knowing that bothers me the very most. I have always landed on my feet and better than before. I have never had to face layoffs before, not like this anyway. I was fearful during the whole 9/11/2001 and Enron aftermath. I've been employed constantly for the last 30 years. Even when I left my job of 11 years to go to school for a year, I did odd and end jobs just so I wouldn't have to pull out of savings. I am not above hard labor. One of my jobs was apartment make readies. Lol. I do have a plan already in motion if I do get the ax. Its the low morale of not knowing.

What do I do? I am a reservoir engineering technician and my degree is a BS in environmental geography and geospatial science. I've been an analyst of some sort in the o&g industry since 1993. 4951

@Retired_Engineer:

That is a scenario that was discussed in the staff meeting. My boss doesn't know who until Wednesday morning. The number crunchers and upper management is making the picks. 4951

@Francita....Take a deep breath, inhale faith, calmness, and positive energy, and exhale negative thoughts, any anxiety, and all fear....   I highly recommend you taking a precautionary measure no matter what happens by updating and circulating your resume, Networking, and always remaining in a positive state...  You're in my  thoughts, and prayers, sweet chica....  Please keep us all updated.... 4951

@Francita: Hope you make it through. We laid off 80 people in the last two days, and as you know, I was one of them. I haven't had to look for a job in 35 years.

I'm rooting for you!
