When did it get easier for you? I have a 4 yo and a newborn (2 mos.), and it's just hard right now. When did things get easier & what years were the hardest? I have a feeling the teen years will be the most popular answer, but perhaps I'm wrong. 4951

@alecktra:

Let me tell you about the teen years. You'll annoy them, they'll know more about life than you and they stink

Enjoy them now. Crying, messy, hyper, and always hungry....these are the good years 4951

it never gets easier ...my kids range in age from 52 to 26 & we still worry about them , but it's nice to know they still need us from time to time . The best years were when they were all out of diapers ! 4951

I remember being a lunatic during the teen years. Didn't believe anything that came from her mouth. Never really could prove she lied. Some things just didn't seem right.  Always waiting for the other shoe to fall. Just lying in bed wondering what will happen, will everything be alright. But then she grew up & it doesn't seem so bad. she never got in trouble with the law, or anything that bad. Once we got a call to come to the hospital because they went to PA and were diving off cliffs and she got hurt. Was in a car accident with a friend of hers. But the worry....... 4951

@alecktra: Mine are twelve months, three weeks apart.... The toddler years were sort of a blur.... With each age range comes new highs and lows... The important thing to remember is to not stress over being the "perfect" mom...

Some of the best memories I and the kids have are from the "mommy" mistakes...

It gets easier as they get more independent as far as having to constantly watch over and take care of everything for them. Middle school years is when they start doing for themselves more. But then the trade off is it's no longer cool to be seen with mom, and most of the time you are just a taxi and ATM service. 4951

@squirtismyboy:
Oh wow.... Thx! Haha. 4 has been a fun age, but adding a baby to the mix has been a big adjustment. Lots more juggling to do as a mom...

@WJo We have only 1 out of diapers ofcourse... But I can see how this will make things so much easier when they BOTH are... I want to enjoy these baby days... But wow, it's all just uber exhausting while running a household. 4951

@alecktra....don't worry about the house , just so it's clean enough to be healthy & dirty enough to feel like someone is living there it's okay . Your babies will only be little for a very short while so enjoy them while you can . My oldest daughter who is 52 told me she remembers me playing hide & seek with them  & pretending to go on african safari's  in the back yard . So play with them so they will have fun memories when they get older. 4951

@donnatella: Yes, even when our oldest turned 4... we enjoyed how self-sufficient she'd become. I'm so glad she thinks I'm "cool" right now... I know that won't last forever....Emoticon

I had 3 under 4 years of age..the oldest learned to make coffee before she was 5 and since they could walk they helped. I was never their maid and if they didn't like what I cooked, then they are more at the next meal. They also learned to entertain their selves. Having more than 1 will help with that. 4951

@BooBear: Thx.
4 yo is still learning to entertain herself, sometimes to the detriment of our poor cat. I was also surprised to see her make her own pb&j sandwich when she saw I was busy with the baby. And then there was the morning I found her in the pantry eating candy b/c I couldn't make breakfast early enough...

Not a mom but as a dad I can speak to this subject pretty well.

Having raised five children and my share of grand children, trust me when I say enjoy the younger years. I cherish the years when the kids were young, learning and dependent.

Once they reached their teens, they started getting smarter and more independant, but their problems grew faster than they did.

They are just reaching the age where I can sleep (a little) at night. Now they are the one's worrying.

Now, when they can't handle the kids or grand kids, they pass the responsibility to the old man. I have to admit though, I sort of like it. It brings back memories and the majority of them are good.

By the way, my oldest is 52 and just bought my first dinner this past week. I guess he's in the payback mode, finally.

Seriously, kids are great. Enjoy them and pray they never stop needing you. 4951

With each stage though, there are new and different issues. You trade one set for another. Its not really better or worse, just different.
I always thought they were easiest before they were a year old. Definitely before they start school. 4951

And with your youngest at only 2 months old YOUR just getting back to normal. It takes those hormones a while to get back. It will pass and a routine will set in. Just try to not focus on how overwhelming it can be and just do 1 thing at a time. 4951
