So myself and dw go up to the asian city for dinner last night .Dw likes the filet minon from the hibachi so we are lead to our seats and there is a family of 4 , mom dad and 2 kids under 2 after being at work all day and wanting to have a nice dinner we looked at each other and immediately wanted to move . Since our kids are grown and we are paying customers we did not feel like being right next to 2 small kids . They were not misbehaving but the possibility was there. As we get up to go to sushi bar lady smarted off to dw and her claws came out and told her something to the effect that our kids are grown and we are moving because we can (insert stink eye here ) . Granted if we had the grandbabies who are 8,6 and 4 I would hope they would put us with other tables that had kids. So question is do you get up and why or do you just tough it out and sit there quietly . Happy friday everyone. ..oh by the way @Francita peppercorn tuna was off the charts tasty very good munchies in that joint ... 4951

Absolutely we would move. We also inform the hostess that we would like to be seated away from families because we're old cranky folks EmoticonIf Mom had smarted off to me I would've been like your wife!! I would've said - Look we've been there and done that and I'm sure your kid are just fine. BUT trust me when YOU get to where WE are you will absolutely rejoice in having a quiet meal by yourselves without reprimanding kids or listening to them. Circle of Life and all that 4951

Oh and our kids did behave when we went out.  They didn't sit at the table and scream and get up and run around.  I see parents allowing that and I feel bad for the kids.  They will grow up with no clue how to actually behave.  When our kids did get fussy, we asked for the check, a to go box and we left.

@Fallon:

I hate when I see parents allow their children to run all over a restaurant and misbehave. I just want to smack the parents. I made my kids stay seated and act like respectable young men. When they were little and got fussy we left as to not bother the other patrons. This is a concept that is disappearing from our society.

I probably would not ask to be moved if the kids are behaving and seated properly. If they are standing up in a booth holding on to the back, I will ask to be moved even when they are being good. Walking/standing on a booth seat can be felt on the other side and little hands over the top pull my hair.

Glad you tried the seared peppercorn tuna! Its my favorite! 4951

I do that now except I would not have let them even seat us. I don't give a crap what the parents think about it. It's my money and my right not to be disturbed by that. I am picky about table location as it is, and if I see a table with kids I will insist on a different table away far away. Some parents are jerks and let their kids go wild and ruin other people's night out. Managers these days are so careful not to offend that they will not step in and correct the problem, so I'm not taking that chance.

Almost every parent thinks their kids are angels in restaurants, but guess what...they aren't, and I don't want to listen to it.

Don't be afraid to ask the server for another table and don't worry about offending. They would be much more offended at what I would have to say if their kids ruined a special night out.

Better yet, for something special, just price them out. Go somewhere that would normally be too expensive for jerk parents to take a table full of kids. It will cost you more but it will be money well spent to weed them out. 4951

Back in my previous life... My then husband and I went out for our anniversary to a very nice restaurant. At the time, it had only been a few months that we had lost our 1 year old daughter. We specifically went at a slow time of day, and asked for a very quite corner. The husband fully explained the situation to the hostess...

Shortly after we were seated and had our drinks, the very same hostess seated a party of about eight adults and two crying infants...

I lost it.... And he called over the manager... We actually had them move the other party to another part of the restaurant before they got situated... 4951

I don't know why people get insulted because you don't want to sit by their kids..you may think they are little angels but I don't know them and sometimes the high little screechy voices just get on my nerves. I had 3 ages 4 and under, hell I didn't want to sit with THEM half the time and they were well behaved in public. 4951

Its your money and if your going out and you don't want to be around other people kids then by all means sit away from them. When Dh and I go out for date day we have done that and we have little ones at home. If the mom doesn't like it to bad unless she wants to pick up your tab. Don't sweat the small stuff. She was probably just jealous !!! 4951

@BooBear: Exaxtly, even those well behaved are little chatter boxes with Minnie Mouse voices and it grates on my last nerve. Teaching kids to behave in restaurants also includes excessive chatter and talking softly. 4951

You are paying good money so you should choose where to be seated. 4951

Kids that young have frequent and drastic mood swings that are difficult to quell, especially at the end of the day when they are tired, cranky and hungry. I would have moved, because I can.....whenever I want.....sorry Mommy. Been there, done that, paid my dues. I also would not have been offended, if I were the Mommy. 4951

@Fallon: This!  And I wouldn't be offended if someone didn't want to sit with us when they see three boys under 8. I think I might question why they pre-judged us, BUT I see crazy kid behavior more and more, so I get it! If anything, though, I'm the type of person where I would probably buy a drink for the Mom instead of leaving. lol

I wouldn't move unless the kids are unruly. I find that restaurants a lot quieter now that all kids do is play on their phones and tables. We haven't had many issues lately with screaming children. At our table we have a rule: no phones, but my youngest is 10, so they won't be running around anywhere.  4951
