Absences allowed to pass or to exempt an exam?
Both answers should be on the district website. 4951

I believe it is 8 or 9 before they are eligible for a court hearing or at least some type of explanation. But every absence needs an excuse or you will receive calls daily for every unexcused one. 4951

Yikes!  A court appearance for missing school?!  Wow, I grew up in NY and thought they were bad up there, I have never heard about a kid/parent having to go to court before for missing school (unless it was a crazy amount of time), 9 times in a whole year doesn't seem like that much to me.  I was sick a lot as a kid, if you have a doctors note, does that count? 4951

10 unexcused absences will get you a court date.No more than 3 absences to exempt a final exam.  If you really have a concern contact the students counselor. 4951

@allymansfield: if the absence is justified, it doesn't count. 10 unexcused absences in a year is a lot.

@notfromhere: Is it?  I guess it averages to a little over 1 a month?  If that doesn't include sick days, I suppose it is...

@staylifted: A fine?!  Interesting.  I wonder how enforceable that actually is?  If you choose not to send your kid to school I don't think that is technically a crime; poor choice maybe.  I know homeschooling is different, but if you pull them to do something educational (I assume this was not your case) is that not the same?  A fine seems kind of crazy.  I mean I see the logic behind it, but I wonder if it is actually legal.

What is an unexcused absence?  Not sending a note with the child when they go back to school?If so, you gotta be pretty lazy to not send in a note.  And to not get the child's work they missed so they are not behind.

@Fallon:
I dont think they care if they had a note or not . It cuts into their funding if they dont have an a☆☆ in the seat . The note I guess is just an cya...but after so many the note doesn't matter.

I think that an absence with a doctor's note is considered an excused absence and does not count against student for exam exemption.A parent note is still excused, but the absence is recorded differently & can be counted against the exemption total.Does that make any sense?   4951

@Puzzles:
A parents note is excused? It wasn't that way when I was a kid. My mom would of written as many notes as I wanted. 4951

@Puzzles:

The student must return to school on the same day w doc note for it not to count against exemptions. Ex: Missed 3rd period due to ortho appt but returns on same day w note = does not count against exemptions.

Four days missed w flu and doctors note = excused absences but required to take finals since more than 3 days missed in a semester.

The key is returning to campus on the same day as doc note.

On premises = $ for attendance. 4951
