A good fire and killer

@silly123:  Did you mean Fire Ant?   I use Bayer advanced and cover the entire yard like you do with Fertilizer.  Keeps Fire Ants gone as well as fleas, ticks and other yard bug.  Seems like Amdro only makes them move to a new place

@tatertot58: We had the same issue with the stuff we bought last year. They would just move. And when we sprayed the entire perimeter of the house, ants moved inside. They weren't fire ants though. Those were various sizes and colors of sugar ants and water ants. I hate chemicals, but I don't want to live with bugs in the house or have my kids attacked by them when playing in the yard. Thanks for the tip.

@Mahm:  I agree with you on that, especially with kids and pets.  I have found the Bayer advanced to be less, shall I say offensive for lack of a better term, in the chemical arena.  Best thing about it, you only need to use it once a years unlike some of the others.  It also keeps away the lawn destroying insect we get later in the year.  The only other thing I use is the Outdoor Backyard to keep mosquito's at bay.

If you want to go natural try DE (diatomaceous earth). They sell it at tractor supply for nearly nothing. Spread it like fertilizer. You can look it up but it's ground up fossils or something to that effect. I used it last year for fleas and it worked great. You can use it inside too. Sprinkle it on carpets and leave for a few hours then vacuum up. Apparently under a microscope it is like (to bugs not us) shards of glass. It pierces their exoskeleton and causes them to dehydrate and die. It's good for most any bugs including roaches. Try to do it when you think there will be a few dryer days in the forecast so it can sit. Also I recommend wearing a painters mask and long pants when putting it down, it's super dusty to breath in! 4951

Orthene, it is the best.But I don't follow the directions exactly, I found a more sure way.BUT my way you also CAN get stung if you are not careful, so I would follow the instructions instead.BUT what I do, is wait until before dusk, just before it starts to cool off.Then I go stir up the bed and sprinkle about a couple tablespoons full (depends on the size, but a larger one a couple) while they are all riled up. Then back out quickly.It works typically by them walking across it and it sticks to their body, and they carry it into the mound where it kills them all. So when I sprinkle it on a crap ton of them, right before their bedtime, it seems to work real good and fast.Almost always the queen and everything, in less than 2 days.It does sort of smell, like a nasty dog fart.I think they carry it in, then the other ants start an argument on who farted. Since so many of them (the way I do it) seem to have  farted, a big fight starts, and they kill each other.But I am guessing at that part Emoticon 4951

We use Pest Stop (http://www.pestopllc.com) for our indoor bug stuff.  I'm highly allergic...as in death if untreated...to fire ant bites so I'm not messing around with them.  About this time last year our guy from Pest Stop sprayed our yard.  Knock on wood, haven't seen a single mound since.  I'm going to have him do it again on his next visit as he charges less than one visit to the ER.  No idea what he uses...napalm would be fine with me...but it sure seems to work well. 4951

What do I need to do to be ready for the bug guy to come? I wasn't here last year when it was done. He does inside and out I guess. Is there anything they do that helps with mosquitoes ? 4951

@tatertot58:

Yea, all few tablespoons a year.
The last container I've had for over 8 years, still using it. Not thinking it is a huge contribution to ground water pollution, not near the same as other yard chemicals. You would actually save more ground water by getting @Ray to stop peeing off his back porch Emoticon 4951
